The three nominees for the Pats HOF

THIS is good news...as it really insures one of the old timers will make it!!! I am pleased that they decided to do this with players of the same era...so an older player will make it. Hats off to those at the Hall for doing this. It's really been by gripe the last few years..and it seems they have agreed that this was a good idea. Having seen these three play..it is GREAT news!!

I agree on Nance...I think more than the others...although I think all should be in. That they did this so that one of the older players could be inducted is really great!! It's been a real popularity contest...so older players were always shut out...as so many fans have never seen them play. Having seen the three, it's a tough choice..but Nance was really the guy that should have been in before. He was the running game for many Patriot years in the latter part of the 60s..when a fullback was as much a running back as a half back.

Why just one, I think that they should start putting two or three in at a time for the next three or so years. Once the Super Bowl era players become eligible that will put the deserving players from the 60's and 70's on the out side look in. There are too many great players that deserve to be in HOF, in IMHO like the three nominees plus Sam Cunningham(the pats altime leading rusher), Raymond Clayborn, Julius Adams and Russ Francis .

I tend to agree...if one looks at the four decade teams there were some really outstanding players that are NOT in the Hall. But this move is a step in the right direction...and something I suggested last year.

He is the greatest 13th round draft pick ever; and the greatest low round draft pick in Pat's History. By comparison Brady was drafted less than halfway through the draft position that Nance like Jim Brown a great Syracuse back, was taken.

Actually it was a sort of a fluke. In those days the NFL and AFL were fighting it out and the rumors were that Nance had signed with the NFL. So no AFL team took him. It turned out not to be true. Jim had an open mind, and signed the best deal where he could start.

Nance should and will go... probably this year, because the majority of fans don't seem to realize that Nance might not have had as many yards in his career if not for Jon Morris who opened the holes that Nance ran through. I worry sometimes that fans will just vote for the recognizable names and either forget or not do their research.

That's why I'm voting for Morris. I have a feeling I'll be one of a token few who - and unfortunately every year Morris is up against a big name, the big name will get in and not him.

I think it would be a real classy move for the organization to put them BOTH in together, recognizing that the success of each individual reflected upon and contributed to the success of the other. Morris was the anchor of the line that helped Nance achieve what he did - and the achievements of Nance also reflected positively on Morris (and the rest of the line, though Morris was the anchor - and a very mobile, physical anchor at that)

I agree. All three of these guys deserve a place. I wonder how many

forum members are old enough (like me) to have actually watched these

guys play. They are from the old AFL days when the Patriots had stiff

competition from the NFL obtaining players.

Ahhhhhh Nance, the "twine" and morris - great early era players. I grew up watching them.

Choosing between Houston Antwine and Jim Nance is like choosing between Sam Cunningham or Sugar Bear Hamilton - cannot be done!!

That said....I'll go with Antwine, even though I voted Nance last year.

Well, I love Jim Nance, but the other two deserve it more than him for consistent all pro seasons. Two great years, but never came close to a thousand yards after that.

I'm pulling the reverse jinx and predicting he's in.

Of course RBs and QBs get much more consideration in these things too, but that's life.

My thanks to the committee for trying to do the right thing.

I agree with this (think I might have mentioned the idea).

Yes, they're all going in, and deservedly so, because winning it all elevates everybody. Still, a veterans group to redress past omissions might be nice.

I'll certainly give a plug for my namesake, I didn't pick this name for nothing.

I'd like them all, of course. Morris was a consistent all star, though a guy named Jim Otto was the all timer. Only two Patriots on the all time AFL team in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I left a little quiz in Reiss mailbag, let's see if he runs it.

Oh, and I basically hate arguing about awards. I just thought twine's was a case of injustice and I'm kind of stubborn. As grumpy as i camn be, I should sit back and just appreciate a wonderful choice this year. Good job.

I wish we could impress on the newer fans that as disastrous and comical as some years were, we were never a consistently bad or hopeless team. The nineties was as bad as any era (although the Clive Rush was not to be believed).

We had great talent from the get go, even though we had no money and no stadium. Besides Nance and Morris and a pretty fair QB in Parilli (not to mention multi threat Cappelletti) We had as good a four man line as any in the AFL. Of course I don't think the AFL compared to the NFL on defense (it was an offensive league).

When Billy Sullivan could concentrate on the team, instead of legal. money and stadium battles, he gave it is all and brought in the best players he could. He had so little staff, I assume he had a decent eye for talent, though Mike Holovak was the early savior in personnel and coaching.
