I'm checking out the fights now, but all I can say is that I'm really disappointed with the level of fans going to these events. I'm sitting here like a maniac yelling at the screen because these stupid rube mouthbreathers are booing anytime that Silva and Leites aren't throwing punches or flailing around. It's driving me insane. These idiots don't understand strategy, you don't just run around the cage throwing punches into the air. Wildo7, you are a master of foresight.

Anybody else check it out? What'd you think?

i don't blame silva, he didn't wanna be submitted and he owned leites in the standup

the fans were booing silva because they still hate him for being a huge ***** in the cote fight (cote's from around montreal in case you didn't know)

overall i thought the card was solid, the title fight totally sucked but that was more leites fault than silva.

my boss had 4 sponsored fighters fighting (kang marshall loiseau and grant) and 3 of the 4 won, so i'm happy about that

Silva didn't want to play with Leites' awesome ground game, and Leites was outclass on his feet. That's how it goes. They were literally booing every time the two fighters weren't touching. Sorry babies, fights don't go the way you want them to all the time.

I just don't like the disrespect of it. Wildo and I have talked about this before though, we both train MMA and know how hard you have to work to get in there. If you don't like the way the fight goes, just don't say anyhting. Don't boo.

i think whenever a guy gets owned for 5 rounds, losing all 5 despite what a couple of the ******ed judges scored it like, then it's a crappy fight

just my opinion, i had silva 5 rounds to zip

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to blame it on our fine neighbors to the north. It's, in general, the water-down effect (as you point out). And Wildo and I were talking about how the success of someone like Lesnar is going to bring in even more stupid fans who think it's like a wrestling match, where you're supposed to boo. And I don't think it is. But that's just me.

My thoughts on the fight were that the crowd booing Silva are disgraceful. If MMA wants to be considered a real sport then it has to be about winning or losing and nothing else. These people saying that it's Silva's responsibility to be "exciting" (meaning a KO everytime) represent the mentality that holds MMA back. Leites is a BJJ stud who I think realized towards the end of the first round that he was outmatched and wasn't going to stand a chance unless he could pull guard and go for some kind of sub. Silva, to me, looked like he was trying to engage in the stand up, but everytime he put together a good combo, Leites would fall on his back, trying to entice Silva to jump into his guard and play into his strength (JJ).

Why should Silva play along? He was clearly dominating the fight, so these people complaining that it's Anderson's job as a champion to "make the fight exciting" by risking getting subbed for no reason whatsoever drive me crazy. If you are going to blame anyone for the fight not being dazzling, and I don't think you should blame anyone if you're a real fan of the sport, then blame Leites for not pressing the action when he knew he was losing. If you are clearly losing a fight, then you have to try to make something happen, not the guy who is dominating because the drunken idiots in the stands want KOs and nothing else. Imagine if the Pats got criticized for winning the Superbowl in a manner that fans didn't find "exciting" enough, or if Michael Phelps got criticized for not breaking any records or not slowing down for a photo finish to win the gold. This is that WWE/backyard brawling mentality that I just cannot stand.

I don't blame Leites though for not going kamikaze because what's the point, at this point it's obvious that in a weaker division Silva is head and shoulders above everyone. Leites couldn't take him down and couldn't stand with him, there was nothing he could do. Personally I enjoy Silva sniping him from the stand up because it's such a nice display of superiority. The only guy I think that would be an interesting challenge for Silva at this point (besides possibly GSP, who I doubt would be able to do much) is Vitor Belfort. I think Mayweather has the same problem since he clearly just can't be beat by anyone in his division and never knocks anyone out, but even he doesn't receive the same vitriol from these morons when he wins by decision. On top of that, Silva never even got a chance to knock out Cote, and other than that he has had some spectacular finishes.

As for the rest of the card I thought it was pretty good, especially since I'm a big Shogun fan and it was nice to see him return to form with good conditioning for a change, even if it was against a Liddell that didn't quite look like the Chuck of old. The fight of the night for me was the Wiman/Stout fight, which I thought was a great overall display of MMA, ven though I didn't agree with the decision.

I disagree with this. I think this is exactly what holds the UFC back is that it holds this niche now amongst idiot redneck fans that go home and punch each other in the face in the back yard. The more popular it gets, the higher standards the fans will be held too, and the morons won't be allowed to run rampant with their booing and disrespect. I think right now, there's not any stupid fans yet to get into the UFC because they're all already watching and booing. The UFC doesn't help itself with the obnoxious marketing either, that's why IMO, Pride was a better presentation, regardless of which one you think had the better talent level.

Great post. It wasn't an exciting fight (Silva/Leites), it was a strategic fight. But I heard Dana White today on O&A say that he's going to make Silva move up to 205 because the division there is stacked. He apparently "understood" why fans were upset with the fight, which is only going to encourage them more to boo any fight that doesn't SICK PUNCHES and TONS OF BLOOOOOOOOD! Ugh. Dana's not helping if he's going to cater to these asses. Silva at light heavyweight would be cool though, there's Evans, Griffin, Machida... those are some cool opponents for him.

I didn't see Wiman/Stout, I'll have to give it a looksie. I like Shogun, but I love Chuck, so I was sad to see him lose. That's the way it goes though. Guys look invincible for a few months then don't. That's the way it goes.

A lot of people have a problem with Dana retiring Chuck, but I like the guy and I don't want to see him turn into a vegetable.

Haha yeah that was great. I love Opie despite his emotional outbursts. No one has made me laugh harder than him. The poker chips, the uncomfortable phone interviews, even the cake stomping (which was INCREDIBLY mean spirited, but I know they gave Andrew tons of money after).

But on the topic of MMA and O&A, I've really enjoyed the stuff they've done with the MMA guys. Their interview with Rampage Jackson and Rich Vos going back and forth was hilarious. Vos is gold.

I'm not usually sensitive about his antics but that cake stomp was the only thing that legitimately made me kind of mad. But yeah, Ant and Jimmy have the comedy angle covered and Opie is the king of cringe moments. He is brutal sometimes.

But on the topic of MMA and O&A, I've really enjoyed the stuff they've done with the MMA guys. Their interview with Rampage Jackson and Rich Vos going back and forth was hilarious. Vos is gold.

Vos is so stupid it's great, when they have him in and just rip on him it's my favorite part of the show. Same with Bob Kelly to a lesser extent. And Rampage was a very good fit for that show since he's a complete lunatic. Did you listen to the Fedor interview when they had him on? It was kind of awkward since it was through an interpreter but Fedor is so humble it's almost kind of scary.
