A Galloway note from Reiss' chat yesterday

Mike Reiss: Shawn, I think the approach is to go with what they have for 2009, but plan for the future (2010) by drafting a possible No. 3 option. Galloway is on a one-year deal. On an aside, Galloway was apparently catching passes from Brady this week and was blown away at the experience. He's played with more than 20 different quarterbacks in his career and I think he has the excitement of a rookie because of the chance to play with Brady. Galloway was marveling at how accurate Brady was in the practice session.

As Brady's private coach said, they operated on his knee, not his head, his heart, or his arm.

So Galloway is fast and a very good receiver. Brady is accurate and a very good QB and makes every WR he clicks with better.

We lost a lot in 2007 when they benched Stallworth to go with Gaffney - too bad Stallworth couldn't be relied on to be in the right place because we missed his speed; hopefully Galloway will get that speed back that we lost with Stallworth but also run better routes.

Great to hear about Brady's accuracy, though, every marker of the knee not bothering him is great (the knee could affect accuracy if he was favoring the re-made knee a little).

Living here in the Tampa area I can tell you that Galloway has speed that will knock your socks off. Last year he could have played but was either in Gruden's doghouse for some reason, or was replaced in his scheme by Antonio Bryant - who had a great year. Biggest knock I would have on Galloway is that he's not as good as Gaffney at run blocking, in my opinion.

That may have been why he didn't see action last year; Tampa Bay used Bryant as their deep threat, Clayton as a run-blocker, and Hilliard as the short, possession, move-the-chains receiver; Bryant had replaced Galloway and the two others were better at those specific roles.

I would suggest that Pats fans discard last years stats, and also completely disregard the idea that he has slowed down. That's not to say that he is more susceptible to injury, because at his age he is; I'm just saying that he was healthy enough to play a whole lot more than he did last year.

My biggest concern is not his health, age, or speed; it is how he will fit in to an offensive scheme that may call on him to be an effective run-blocker.

Well said, I was a big Donte Stallworth fan, and was a bit dissapointed that he was not used more in the offense, and thought he could have given them more as a outside threat.. But it must be the dredlock thing that affects the head of these wr.. Stallworth, Gabrial.. They must have had a hard time understanding the playbook, or running bad routes that cause some disconcern..

Reminds me of Brady-->Moss in May/June of '07. But this is April. A great sign of things to come for Galloway, Brady AND, most importantly, the '09 season. It doesn't mean we win the SB, but it still gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling.

BTW, I agree with drak375042. Brady isn't the the greatest QB in the world, but we have more pressing needs to address in the draft, so I guess we'll settle for him. I just hope he doesn't choke like he did in all the playoff games since '01.

Nice comments. I'm very excited to see what Galloway adds to this offense, almost as much as Fred Taylor. I think that Moss suffered last year from Cassel's inabiliy to throw the deep ball, but almost as much from a lack of other deep threats. Galloway and Lewis should add a speed dimension which was lacking. I expect the 2009 offense to be better overall than either 2007 or 2008 - better run game than 2007, better deep passing game than 2008. Maybe not as many points as 2007, but stronger and more diversified overall. As long as the OL can protect TB.

No doubt the gameplan was mostly to throw short, but Moss had some terrible drops last yar.

I thought Cassel's first pass after replacing Brady was a deep ball to Moss, throwing from his own endzone with a 3rd and 10+, which was pretty much on the money.

I still think the Pats had gelled and could have done some damage in the playoffs if not for the tie-breakers, or a couple of key games. Certainly, the Colts won about 5 games based on pure luck (and opposing coaching incompetence) to start the season. Not that they didn't win and didn't deserve to be n the playoffs, but the Pats played well enough to get in. I don't see 2008 as a failure. 11-5 is a good year no matter how you look at it (except for those who have two choices: win the superbowl or you suck)
