d%#*!@t I just posted this lmao...I guess it will be deleted. But Yeah did you notice no Everette Brown?

My binky! :(

I think he just claimed it because they share the same initials. lol

According to Banks, "All you need to know is the Pats head coach attended UConn's pro day, and that's not an every-day trip for Mr. Hoodie." Of course, Mel Kiper things the Pats are taking a different UConn player at 23, Donald Brown. I guess together it means that the Pats must really be targetting William Beatty. :D

my "nobody saw that pick coming" would be Cody Brown.

It's ok Bakes, as long as they take Larry English 23 you'll be all right. :)

Banks is a New Englandah and does have decent sources. His "Belichick was at the pro day" comment wasn't the strongest but Banks isn't someone to just laugh off IMO.

It's possible that may be who he was interested in, as we know he gave him a long, extended chalk talk for like 35 minutes. Could be at 34 or 47, who knows?

Don Banks 2008 Mock Draft 6.0

1 DE/LB Vernon Gholston

9 * LB Keith Rivers USC Sr. 6-3 236
*PROJECTED TRADE WITH BENGALS* As outlined at No. 7, I've got the Patriots trading down with the Bengals, who couldn't afford to take the chance that New Orleans would make a deal with New England and land Ellis. The Patriots love Rivers and feel the ex-Trojan can play both inside and outside, just the kind of versatility that New England's defense requires. The Patriots would likely have Rivers line up inside, which would allow them to shift Adalius Thomas back outside, which is where his play-making impact has been the greatest.

24 LB Jerod Mayo Tennessee Jr. 6-2 230
With Thomas and Sweed both gone, I don't think the Titans are going to like their receiving choices (Jackson or Hardy) at No. 24. So we're giving them Mayo, the ex-Vol who can fill a need for Tennessee at outside linebacker.

He certainly had his hand on the pulse of the Patriots last year around this time. :D

Don Banks says its a virtual certainty that they'll take him. This means it has no chance in hell of happening.
Nice, well-thought out analysis.

Pretty sure Banks final mock draft not only included the Patriots drafting Mayo, but trading down to 10 with New Orleans to do it.

I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit: Found it and he was right. Don Banks: SI.com NFL Mock Draft Version 7.0 - Don Banks - SI.com

Oh I know, I was just saying that at this time last year he had no idea so I wouldn't put too much stock into his current version. I will be interested to see the final version he comes out with the day before though.

#3 Pick:

Pioli taking Monroe? Makes a lot of sense to me when you consider they have $16+ million invested in Matt Cassel. Curry is as much of a sure-thing as Derrick Johnson was when the Chiefs took him years back. But how much that matters when your QB isn't completing passes is a while different issue.

#4 Pick:

Sanchez goes to the Seahawks? If they do this, I think they are writing off the 2009 season. Monroe would be perfect here because Hasselback's health is going to be affected by the health on the offensive line. Since they can't get him, why not just release Hasselback, pick Sanchez and let Wallace/Rowe take the helm for the year.

#23 Pick:

Bulter? I would be excited about this for only one reason: Belichick as openly favored him above all other prospects. That must mean something. Either he has lost his mind or he knows something about him that we will soon find about about. Don't be confused with this interpretation and expect him to win ROY. Bill is obvisouly taking into account where he picks in the first round.

Here's the thing about the Patriots draft strategy this year--after Mc Daniels, Sealy, and Pioli left, a fair amount of the Patriots' information on players in the upcoming draft may have gone with them, even though it was back in January. As a result, I think that pre-draft deception is probably an even bigger component of the game plan than it's been in previous years. I would place very little credence into senior bowl and combine interviews, pro day workouts, pre-draft visits, etc. I also don't think the Patriots would be above feeding some disinformation to a guy like Banks. He would be an especially good guy to do this to, since he pretty much nailed it last year.

They have less information so they're going to waste their precious time interviewing people they have no interest in to throw others off the trail.

I think you're getting a little carried away. People won't automatically pick someone just because BB is interested.

They've interviewed tons of people they drafted; warren, merriweather, Chad Jackson (extensively and publically)...no evidence whatsoever they waste their time with ruses.

Re: Don Banks 4-17 Mock 1 round

I would take Brown at 34.

I'd be very happy with those 2 picks

Butler at 23, E.Brown at 34

If, as according to this mock, Aaron Curry is on the board at 7, the Pats will trade up to the Raider's spot. The Pats get the best player in the draft and the Raiders get to move down to select Darrius Heyward-Bey.

This is one of at least 2 trades that I predict that the Pats will be involved in.
