WEEI.com: Q&A with Jerod Mayo

Thanks for all the kind words.

Both SMY and myself commented on the fact that he's only met with Belichick once this offseason. Not entirely sure what that means -- Belichick could be busier with offseason evaluation, there's probably not as much hand-holding needed with someone like Mayo -- but it was interesting to hear.

Well, between scouting and touring with Bon Jovi.....

Mayo is the exact type of leader this team needs on defense. As this team get older, the team needs to create young leaders who will take on the role as team leaders. As players retire (bruschi) and leave (vrable) this will be critical. I also look for AD to take a lead role as being a leader on this "d".

Yes, but people were wondering why the team wasn't blitzing, and this is a nice window into some of the reasoning.
Odd, you'd think someone would have commented about that during the season.

Some of us did, it's true. ;)

But, we were told it was all about how bad the secondary was. It's nice to see 'official' confirmation regarding the downside of the rookie LBs. I expect they'll be working hard to convince BB & Co. that they are ready to shoulder the full burden this season.

Sounds like a great kid with great work ethics and dedication. I look for him to be one of the great ILB's.

Mayo really seems like a best case scenario type of player... Not sure you could ask for anything else out of a guy like him. The Patriots were just really so fortunate to be able to pick him a year after going 16-0.

Mayo is the kind of guy who could be a Hall of Famer with his combination of work ethic and athleticism. Certainly, that is far, far down the road, but its realistic to think that he'll be a 12-13 year starter at linebacker for us playing at a Pro-Bowl level for at least most of them, a-la Junior Seau. I'm happy with the pick :)

Thanks for posting this!! Mayo has a great attitude, has heart, and is motivated. He will be calling the plays in the huddle some next year and probably will be the new captain for the ILB's!!
