i already ordered direct and saved $35.00 a month for at least a year.

this is a pretty stupid controversy. Comcast should be able to manage their product as they see fit and the NFL Network should sell it to them and quit trying to establish their own monopoly at the expense of the fans.

If I don't like what Comcast is doing then I can change to something else but I have other reasons for retaining comcast and for not seeing 7 or 8 football games I can go to the local sports bar for a change of pace.

I wish the poliiticians and courts would stay out of this mess and instead spend their time attacking real problems.

I'm really confused. I thought this was originally a contractual squabble, but now the NFL is claiming that even absent a contract Comcast is obligated to carry them on the basic tier? Wouldn't that set precedent that every channel could then use? Effectively, Comcast would only be able to have one tier of cable. According to the NFL, what's so novel about the NFL network?

Edit: Ok, a little research on my part found that the NFL takes issue with Comcast owning their own sports channels, which they carry on their basic tier. They might have a point, but the solution should be to force Comcast to divest themselves of any content. When the network provider and content provider are the same, of course they're going to discriminate in favor of their own content.

That is what bothers me. I pay for NFLN and though I wouldn't mind getting it for free, I would sure hate to see a half dozen shopping, golf, cooking and what not channels all forcing Comcast to put them on basic and each charging Comcast a buck per subscriber for the privelege. Because you know that if Comcast pays NFLN a buck a month per subscriber, they are going to raise the basic rate a buck a month, and the same with all the other premium channels who decide to get on the gravy train.

EDIT: Hmmm. If NFLN and other premium channels charge Comcast a buck a month per subscriber, Comcast will actually raise the monthly rate a $1.10, claiming administrative costs.

I agree. If the NFL wants its network in the standard tier, then they should only charge a standard tier price. Granted, some networks are more in demand and can charge more than others, but with all the same day repeat programming you see on the NFL Network, it's not merited.

I have always paid for NFLN on my comcast. It is $5 a month for that tier and includes the speed channel. I have no problem paying $5 for the channel.

I haven't read much into this and am slightly confused because of that.

Will the channel still exist on my pay tier May 1st or the people who get it free now, will have to pay for it then?
