Bills shopping Roscoe Parrish

Just saw on ESPN.com that Buffalo is shopping Roscoe Parrish due to their newfound glut at WR. I'm normally not one to be covet every and any available player, but Parrish would be a HUGE upgrade to the punt return game (something sorely lacking since #80's heyday); I don't know about you, but I always cringe when the Pats punt the ball to him. And as far as offensively, I feel he could be highly effective in multiple WR spread formations the Pats use.

Best part is he is young and would obviate the need to draft a WR in the second round.

Two main issues of course are: 1) Would Buffalo trade him in division?; and 2) What is his asking price?

I'd have no problem with NE offering up a third, or even their last second for the guy. I'm that big of a fan, and, if I'm not mistaken, I think he is one of those guys that BB goes out of his way to praise before and after games. (Could be wrong though ...)

Second rounder sounds a little steep, IMO. I do like the guy, but given the depth that we already have at WR, and the likely asking price, I'd be surprised to see it happen. It'll be interesting to see what the Bills end up getting for him, for sure.

He is a great PR, but as a receiver I don't think he has much value at all, so to me the question becomes is an extra couple of yards per punt return worth both a draft pick and the cost of a roster spot? It's an interesting question.

FWIW, I know Belichick sings the praises of Josh Reed often, and searches for him after most Bills games, but it's possible he's also praised Parrish; he certainly talks about their return game often enough.

The issue is moot since there is no way the Bills would trade him to the Patriots, but I wouldn't offer more than a fourth or a fifth rounder for the guy. If he was worth any more, they would keep him around as their #3 WR.

If he was worth any more, they would keep him around as their #3 WR.

I doubt they would trade him within the division, especially to New England, but they now have burners Lee Evans and Terrel Owens as #1 and #2, with slot man Josh Reed as the #3, and their second round promising pick--James Hardy as the #4. With TE Royal, and the pass catching ability of Marshawn Lynch out of the backfield, their receiving abilities look promising. They are also targeting another major offensive weapon supposedly in first or second round of the draft, which makes Parrish quite expendable. In other words, I think they'd do it for a third rounder for sure. With his base salary approx. 1 million per, he would've made an excellent addition, had we not already picked up G.Lewis. And, obviously, if they would've traded him to us--which is probably doubtful. But he would've been an excellent addition, and could've taken punt return duties off of Welker. I know he'd obviously be a great special teams addition, but don't think it's possible because of their views. But saying they'd keep him if he 'were worth any more' is debatable.

I don't think so, I thought he was still on his old contract, he just didn't want to go to training camp

That would explain why they might be trading him. They can't afford to keep him.

Not sure how much of the Bills punt return success is their system and overall execution, and how much is Parrish. My bias is towards the former.

I'd want peters a lot more than roscoe parrish. The guy projects to WR #4 at best for the Pats plus punt returner. That's not worth more than a 4th round pick at best. Don't see Buffalo trading in division though. Look what happened when the Phins traded Welker to us. I don't think Parrish will be nearly as good as Welker though. welker was worth it.

Parrish isn't all that great of a receiver. He has move value as a punt returner than anything else. Maybe with Brady throwing to him, he could have a Welker type of explosion. But I don't think Parrish is close to the player that Welker is.

I think his market value is probably a fourth, which is why I suggested the Pats would need to pony up more than that (third) to get the in division trade. And if BB really, really, really, loves Parrish, I would be fine with them trading their last second rounder (though they'd probably get a lower pick back).

End of the day, it's all about how much BB values Parrish's return skills, as I agree, he's no more than a slot WR and would be a backup here. But still would be a nice extra weapon to have on offense.

You must not value draft picks very much if you believe that a 4th wide receiver who would be no more than a backup here is worth a 2nd round pick. Because thats what KC paid for their potential franchise QB and slated starter.

If someone gives Parrish 4 million per yr, they are tripping. His value may not be where his current salary is, (1 to 1.5 m) but it's certainly no more than 2 to 2.5.
I think we'd actually at least inquire, had we not just picked up G.Lewis and Galloway, but I don't think Buffalo would trade to us either. And FWIW--I think he'd be a good #3 or #4 receiver and special teams demon. Someone will trade for him, that's for sure.
