The top of my list for this week includes:
Curry
Everette Brown
Laurinitis
Maualuga
trade for a veteran wide receiver

Some may think an offensive lineman, but we have five solid starters for 2009; ditto for defensive linemen. Even at defensive back, we have seven who should contribute, including all the starters and the nickel. How many reps should we expect from a learning defensive back with so many ahead of him in the depth chart? A TE oer RB would be staring at four ahead of him in the depth chart.

Well I think Curry could come in and start at either ILB or OLB but could you imagine getting boldin for #34 and something else? 4 wide set...Moss at the top of your screen Boldin at the bottom and Galloway and Welker in the slots.

I like the list of four there. I'd probably throw in William Beatty to play guard, I think he would start right away and be the future replacement for Light. Delmas or Moore would contribute before seasons end, at the very least in sub and nickel packages. Bj

Everett Brown is probably my favorite player to help us now.Brown is the best pure pass rusher imo in this draft. Curry, Maualuga and Laurenitis could help out but we still have able veterans in Bruschi and Guyton for ILB. It doesn't mean I don't want to draft one because it is a need as much as OLB.

From the original list, the one I question most is the last one: trade for a veteran wide receiver. Another receiver is only going to see the playing field if one of the top three is injured, or on special teams - and Lewis should be available to step up in case of injury. For special team play a rookie makes as much, if not more sense than trading for a veteran in my opinion.

Yes. Anquan Boldin and Braylon Edwards are also being shopped.

If I were to pick one player who has the talent at a position of relative weakness to help us the most this year, I would probably go with Chung. That being said, with Sanders making the defensive calls, he might not get on the field except in certain "big" packages and as an injury fill-in, so unless another player is going to set the defense, I'll go with Sintim.

The right side of the offensive line is an area where I could see a rookie starting. Safety is a spot I could see someone winning a job at, like Chung or Delmas, but I feel Beatty or Meredith or another offensive lineman has the surest bet to see the field as a rookie.

I had a dream last night that we traded Welker and a draft pick (can't remember which one) for Boldin Not that anybody's interested, I just thought I would throw this out here anyway

I'm in grad school out here in Oregon and also I think that Chung could have a great impact this year. Don't forget that in addition to being able to play safety this year (though as you correctly mention, with Sanders making the calls there may not be as much room to play) Chung is also a fantastic special teams player. I watched many of the Oregon games on TV and in person, and Oregon tried to get him on the field as much as they could, on defense, on kick return, on kick coverage, etc. He always seemed to be in on the play. He is a fantastic tackler, hard hitter, and has great body control and speed. That skill set would allow him to have an early impact while he's learning the nuances of being a safety in BB's system.

I (and others) have Mike Wallace (WR) and Joe Burnett (CB) on our boards as kick returners. I'm not sure their worth a spot if we have Maroney returning kicks. Also, Hobbs is one of the best and will only be here for a year (or two at the most) so the risk isn't large.

How about a new kick returner? Who's the best returner in the draft?

Probably a LB to replace Vrabel. And a S to replace Rodney. Then probably OL & DL depth. Ain't really rocket science.

The only place for 2009, is at LB ,and specifically ILB. Any OLB is a multi-year project, but there is an immediate starting job to be claimed at ILB. So Mauluga or Laranitis or maybe Sintim.

I like Lauraniuis as there is no doubt he is a 3 down guy and not a situation specialist like Mauluga. I doubt BB woul use a first round pick on a two-down specialist player. Sintim is likley a 3 down guy too.

Agree with you on Chung. I am not sure that if Johnson could be had at a reasonable number, you don't do it. In 2010 we have only Welker and Lewis signed for WR. We do run 4 WR sets and how more dangerous would we be with him on the team? I am not saying it would not cost us as in CAP or a valued pick. I am just saying the thought is provoking Cousin.

The wild card I will throw out is Pat White who seems to have our interest. If we script seven to ten plays for him each game, it requires a DC more preparation time. It would be a whole new dimension. I would predict one or two wins and not typical, as a direct result IMO.

Harvin, Maclin, Devin Moore, or Brunette IMO. Harvin would have returned kicks for UF but Brandon James was the best return man on the team and Urban Meyers didnt want to risk injury to harvin when he had James.
