Has it been a moth since we did the last one? Much has changed so let's do another.

NFL Draft - 2009 Draft Prospects - CBSSports.com Football

Rules - there has to be rules.

You cannot pick anyone ranked 3 places above the Patriots picks. So you can't choose a player ranked #19 or above and so on and so forth.

Once you've done that then you can do one with trades as long as the trades make sense from the value board.

This is just to see where people are thinking about the players there are no winners or losers. DO NOT tear into someone else picks until you have made yours, and do it respectfully. OK go to it!

I would be in 7th heaven with that draft. Can't imagine a better one for me, given my player preferences.

If I were truly drafting blind, I would take the players in exactly the order listed. The biggest dilemma I would have would be Delmas at 47 and Gilbert at 58 - I probably wouldn't be content to sit and wait hoping that both fall, I would probably use #89 to trade up to secure one of them, thus missing out on either Jason Williams or one of the OG's, who I would have to choose between at #97.

23 - Rey Maualuga, ILB USC

Love him or hate him, it is highly likely that Maualuga would start at the TED for the Patriots if drafted. He'd be a clear upgrade over Bruschi and would relegate Guyton to a nice backup position.

34 - Alex Mack, C California

He's a bit overrated this high but Mack is the best interior lineman coming out this year in my opinion.

47 - Clint Sintim, OLB Virgina

Not one of the OLB drool targets but Sintim has a really nice burst off the line and has demonstrable skill and experience at linebacker. In my opinion, he is the only other 1st/2nd round OLB besides Curry that is a sure thing not to bust.

William Moore, S Mizzou

I really wanted to take Jarron Gilbert here but remembering Moore's junior season finally swayed me. This is a very risky pick, as Moore was just horrible last season. Moore's potential to start at safety and upgrade Sanders is more valuable to the Patriots than Gilbert being a backup next season.

89 - Javon Ringer, RB Michigan State

My Ringer love has officially gone past the point of rationality if I'm picking him this high. I still believe he would be a great candidate to replace Faulk.

97 - Gerald Cadogan, OT Penn State

Tough, skilled and intelligent tackle. He'd be a nice backup at the very least.

124 - Lardarius Webb, CB Nicholls State

I'd probably rather take Domonique Johnson here but his workouts have dropped him into the UDFA territory, so I'll take the knucklehead with the workout numbers to double up on FCS corners.

170 - Sammy Lee Hill, DT Stillman College

He's enormous and fairly athletic for his size. The Patriots have shown interest.

199 - Everette Pedescleaux, DE Northern Iowa

Big, athletic man who could absolutely play end in the 3-4.

207 - Eron Riley, WR Duke

The best WR sleeper outside of Mike Wallace.

234 - Julius Williams, OLB UConn

Pats showed interest and he was a good player for the Huskies.

I like this draft esp the Ringer Pick. IDK why but he reminds me of matt forte a little bit.

Devin Moore was my first ever Binky, then I find out he is not invited to the combine:banned:. He did have a private showing right before but he is a great replacement for Faulk IMO. If we got him there in the draft I would be very happy but I think someone had to have watch the same tape I did and will take him in the third or fourth.

Thanks, I like it too. I prefer Huber to Morstead but he's rated #186, so I would have had to take him at 170 or trade up. Morstead is Patchick's preferred punter, though, so hopefully she's right and I'm wrong (which is always a reasonable bet).

23. Rey Maualuga, SILB, USC.
Even if Carucci’s “3-step plan” that lands us Peppers and Maualuga is a farce, I still think Maualuga is a rare, playmaking, run-stuffing SILB with the requisite size and is such a perfect fit next to Mayo that the Pats have to love him. I know he has been discussed ad nauseam, but one thing few people talk about is how good of a blitzer he is, which could allow the defense to be more explosive and exotic than it has been the last few years, especially on 1st and 2nd down.
34. Larry English, OLB, Northern Illinois.
I think Barwin and Matthews will move into the first round because of their momentum and good workouts, allowing the better overall pass rusher to slip to the Pats. BB already mentioned his name in an off hand way at the combine, which tells me he is on their radar
47. Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose State
The 2010 Starting RDE after Seymour leaves via Free Agency or another Franchise and Trade move by the Pats.
58: Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina
Athletic, Versatile, Smart, Experienced in a spread scheme with Spurrier.
85: Rashard Johnson, S, Alabama
Very solid, plus experienced in similar system with Saban. Good ST player with potential to start at both S positions.
*Trade: #89, 199, & 234 to Philly for #85. We need to get rid of picks because not everyone will make the team.
97: Jarret Dillard, WR, Rice
Just seems/looks like a good fit. Good slot and outside potential
124: *Trade to Dallas for 2010 3rd Rd Pick. (Why Dallas?: Because Jones is impulsive and wants a falling WR that’s not worth it, and we need to get rid of picks).

I know this is 8 spots of where he is ranked, but the 5th round is much more fluid so I’ll give myself some leeway. A true NT backup/insurance policy for Wilfork.
