OK, enough is enough.

We need to debate these players civily. We have 16 more days until the draft and quite frankly these pissing contests are starting to get old, boring, and ruining this forum.

Infractions will be given out to those who call others stupid, ******ed, morons, ect., or tell others to STFU or GFY or other such name calling. Also infractions will be given to those who start stirring the pot just to get a pissing contest going.

Patchick and I don't want to be put into the position of giving out infractions. But we have conferred on this and we are determined to restore the forum to a place where draft information can be exchanged in a civil and respectful manner.

Now good natured exchanges and post for humor are always welcome and this is not what we are talking about.

Please act accordingly.

Thanks

I don't even read any thread with "Barwin" in the title, for what it's worth. I'm pretty sure I know how it's going to go.

Just temp-ban people already. It's easier on the readers, and it makes the point to the offending posters: they'll learn soon enough. I also support the comedy ban option, to keep things lively.

Then I should stop making up quotes for you since they won't get your goat?

I was going to post one of my Bombay Express draft videos, but then I'll have to give myself an infraction before patchick bans me.

Thanks, Nut. And everybody, please note that this is a common-sense standard of civility. IOW, no more of the "I didn't call him an in-bred imbecile, I just said his opinions resembled those of an in-bred imbecile" excuses. :p

There is no such thing as common sense. If there was, then this country wouldn't be in the shape its in right now.

That being said, I hope the Mods don't over-react when people use negative adjectives to describe ill-thought ideas. Some people don't seem to realize that you can have a asinine idea and not be asinine yourself.

If this is going to be PC, then Ian might as well shut the whole message board down because its not PC to be PC.

I had no idea there was such a big problem :scared:

This is certainly true. I myself harbor several asinine ideas, while my essential character is more feline, or perhaps ursine.

Nonetheless, it will be a fine exercise in vocabulary building to show me the error of my asinine ways without using the word asinine, which is strangely ineffective in changing opinions. :)

Way to justify stoking the fire. Come on, guys doing this repeatedly should get a temp ban. There's a better way to make one's arguments. And dismissing things as PC doesn't alleviate the clusterf*ck threads.

I assure you it won't be PC. And debating the merits of a player or a draft position can be done without calling someone a moron.

We are not sitting face to face and don't know each other personally. I can sit with my brothers and and friends and have a good debate and they can call me an idiot and I can call them stupid. I know them and they know me, so fine with all of us.

Now if you tell someone on a message board that their idea is stupid or they are being dumb, they will get pissed and then retort and we are off to the races to a food fight. So, we should find another way to do it without being offensive about it.

One other thing while we are on the subject. I have been contacted over time from posters here, good posters who are not PC, that have special needs children. They do get offended by the use of the word "******" or "that's ******ed". I don't fully appreciate what they are feeling but when they tell me that's offensive to them, I don't use it here.

None of this is directed at you DaB. It's for all of us to keep in mind.

H'mmm, perhaps backnine?

What are you talking about? There is no stoking the fire. I can't count the number of times the Mods have told people to get a thicker skin. That's all this is doing. Growing a thicker skin.

Why should someone be banned for calling an idea asinine? It doesn't violate the EULA.

If you want to stop things, stop the people who consistently lie and exaggerate about what people say. That is as much of an insult.

I agree with the OP's sentiment. Let's keep it civil. I'm sure there are bound to be disagreements and people tend to get passionate about their prospects but that's not a good excuse to be rude. It is quite possible to express disagreement without resorting to personal attacks.

Some quotes to ponder:

"Respect for ourselves guides our morals; respect for others guides our manners." ~Laurence Sterne

"Good manners are made up of petty sacrifices." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength". ~Eric Hoffer

I am pretty sure that no one was called a moron. That word is so last month :D

If they get pissed because they wrote something stupid and someone called them on it, whose fault is that?

PNM, This was brought to my attention a while back and I stopped using it. But, I will be honest. Its another PC thing. Just like the stupid ObamaChia that was called racist because the plant growing out of Obama's head "looked like an afro". It looked like Obama's hair. How is that racist? Its racist because its the "Victim Mentality" at work. The more we cater to them, the more they lean on it and the more the minority will control the majority.

I sense a pissing match a'brewin.

You and I have had our disagreements. We've both made asses of ourselves. But I am fairly certain you never lied about the things I said because you quoted my whole paragraph or post. And I am fairly certain that I never lied about what you said. To me, lying or exaggerating what a person says is antagonizing that person and opens them up to whatever rebuttal they get.

Calling a thing asinine tends to put somebody into defensive mode. That's exactly why mods think getting a thicker skin would help. And that's what I mean by stoking the fire. Maybe instigating is a better word, though it depends on the point at which something is called asinine, I guess.

Why should someone be banned for calling an idea asinine? It doesn't violate the EULA.

Is the EULA the same thing as, or does it mention the posting guidelines? Are there posting guidelines? Honest questions. Either way, that doesn't mean that one can't improve the guidelines or forum behavior (that's not prohibited by the EULA or posting guidelines). There's a pretty obvious problem.

If you want to stop things, stop the people who consistently lie and exaggerate about what people say. That is as much of an insult.

Just make the correction. In a factual matter, right is right. In a matter of opinion or interpretation this is a not a battle one wins, especially by calling things asinine.
