Just wondering. He is rated so high; is he as good as advertised? I have read his Pass rush is not so great. Would be impact any defense he played for?
Not asking to trade up for him. Your thoughts on him.

thanks

Probably one of the highest Rated pure Linebackers to come out this decade.Seriously he is rated 1 or 2 on almost every big board I see. I wont even comment on this I leave it to the experts...Scouts Inc.-2004: Curry redshirts. 2005: He starts 10 of the 11 games he appears in and finishes with 45 total tackles, 28 unassisted tackles, 7.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack and five pass breakups. 2006: Curry starts all 14 games and finishes with 83 total tackles, including 8.5 TFL, three sacks and one interception. 2007: Curry starts 12 of the 13 games he plays in and finishes with 99 total tackles, 13.5 TFL, three sacks, four pass breakups and four interceptions. 2008: Curry starts in all 13 games, recording 105 total tackles, 66 unassisted tackles, 16 tackles-for-loss, and 2.5 sacks. He also adds one interception, three pass break-ups, two QBHs, three fumble recoveries, and forces one fumble. Earns first team All-ACC honors and wins the Butkus Award (nations' top linebacker).
Height-Weight-Speed 1 Curry possesses an elite blend of height, weight and straight-line speed for a linebacker. Showcased his natural blend of size, speed and athleticism with outstanding Combine workout.
Durability 1 A four-year starter that did not miss a game due to injury throughout career.
Character 1 His father, Reggie Pinkney, played five seasons in the NFL and his brother, Patrick Pinkney, plays quarterback at East Carolina. No off-the-field issues to our knowledge. He is a highly competitive person with excellent football character. He is an outstanding leader and team player. Only minor blemish is that Wake Forest didn't start Curry in the 2007 Navy game because he missed a class earlier in the week.

Outside Linebacker specific Traits
Instincts/Recognition 1 Very instinctive player. Locates the ball carrier quickly. Is disciplined and will execute his assignments. Plays within the scheme. Diagnoses plays quickly and rarely takes false steps.
Pursuit/Point of Attack 1 Fills hard and will explode through iso-blockers in a phone booth. Shows the ability to stack and shed efficiently. Is thickly built and plays with a wide base. Takes sound angles in pursuit and displays sideline-to-sideline range. Aggressive and quick enough to disrupt running plays in the backfield. Overall effort is outstanding.
Tackling 1 Squares up to the ball carrier, wraps up and drives legs once in position. Shows good power at the point of attack and is extremely strong. Only knock here is that he occasionally will struggle to break down and make open-field tackle versus quick ball-carriers in space.
Pass Coverage 2 Reads quarterbacks' eyes and shows outstanding instincts in coverage. Almost never bites on play-fake. Shows some stiffness in his hips, so he won't be an ideal one-on-one matchup versus NFL's quickest RBs and TEs. But he can hold his own in most man-to-man situation and he has good range in zone.
Pass Rusher 3 Has limited experience as a pass rusher. Needs to become more polished in terms of pass rush moves. He does have potential in this area, though. Shows good instincts in timing his blitzes. Explosive enough to turn the corner at the NFL level and shows ideal closing speed. Shows good body control and can recover when gets knocked off balance. Active and extremely strong hands; can rip off of blocks quickly.
Trait Scale
1 = Exceptional 2 = Above average 3 = Average 4 = Below average 5 = Marginal

i dunno but i can't wait to see him play. all of these guys, in fact. i think this is a big draft for the league this year. too bad a year after it, there may only be 8 games.

From everything I've read, heard and seen is pretty much the most polished LB coming out this year. No major deficiancies in his game. Pretty much equal in the pass and rush defense. He was asked to be more of an anchor and did not play on a attacking style defense. Thus the low sack totals. With his speed some pondered what his sack total would have been had his reigns been loosened.

Hmmmm.....maybe we should trade up with the Chiefs to get him.
Never mind... it would cost to much $$

I have not come across a report that found any concerning flaw in his game.

Apparently the guy is so good that multiple respected sites are saying he could basically play any of the LB positions and start.

I've watched him play a lot and in my mind, he is not as complete a player as AJ Hawk was coming out of college.

Better Athletically, Much Higher ceiling, what else you want on him? Oh he can play every LB spot in any system.

I'm not projecting upside, I'm grading on his instincts, playmaking ability, coverage, technique, and strength.

He had a lot of freedom in college and that afforded him the opportunity to make plays in pursuit. But if he was that great, why are ACC teams having success in the running game coming straight at him?

Wicked Pissah Scary Good.......

Good enough to trade up to #3 to get.... The cost be damned!

In the words of eric foster...I LOOOVE IT

Last summer, when Rey Maualuga and James Laurinaitis were rated the #1 and #2 players overall (not just at LB, but of all college players) on many "professional" draft boards, I identified Curry as a player of extreme interest. He had been rated a 3rd round pick by the NFL draft advisory board in 2008, and was considered a likely 2nd round pick, but he seemed much more athletic, technically sound, and versatile than either Laurinaitis or Maualuga. I had hopes then that we would pick at #32 and that Curry would fly under the radar. Both hopes obviously changed quickly. By late September Curry was a probably 1st round pick, by early November he was a top 20 pick, and by December he was a top 10 pick.

I like Curry. There's little not to like. He has great size and speed, a great motor, good fundamentals, tremendous drive, and good instincts. He is solid against the run and the pass, and while not a pure pass rusher he can bring the heat.

With that in mind, having liked him when he was anonymous, I think he has gotten over-hyped. He may be the safest prospect in the draft, but his upside is less than some others. I'm not sure he a 3-4 OLB or what his best position would be in the Pats 3-4. And short of Lawrence Taylor, I'm not sure any LB is worth the #3 pick in the draft to this team.

Well thought-out and and articulated! I dub thee: Captain Kill-Joy!

I go for the over-hype of Curry cuz I know we will never get him.....

That's why teams are talking about skipping their pick in the top 5. If Curry is the safest pick, but you don't even want him at #3 then there is something wrong with the draft.

Do you really think a strike is a possibility, with the players forfeiting half their pay (plus pro-rated signing bonus) and coming up on an uncapped year? Never happen. There may be a lockout in 2012, but the players, perhaps misguidedly, are looking forward to uncapped years.

Best comparison would be Keith Bullock-Titans. No-nonsense producer that will play for several years at or near pro-bowl level. Does all well. Team player.

Not very good at all. Give me past draftees like Ray Lewis, Ernie Sims, and Demeco Ryans anyday.

Do you relaize none of those three could excel at ILB in a 3-4 defense?

Certainly. I never wanted them on the Patriots. I have respect for other players across the league and I am capable of objectively looking at this team.
