Does McDaniels need to go after Sanchez?

I say keep what they have right now at QB to see what they have (Two QB's who have started a total of 48 games and they are like 27. They can draft a QB (Bradford, Snead, McCoy or even Tebow) in the first next year as they will have two because of the trade. Denver I think in the long term might get the best of this deal when we look back on this. Who is Cutler throwing the ball too in Chicago, Hester and Olsen?? Not to mention the issues they have on OL but they do have a stud RB which is good.

With #12 if the grabbed Raji would be a great start for them as I really do not see the USC kid falling below 10 IMO. Freeman I am not sold on as a first rounder....maybe at the end but I think the Jets will reach:D. Then at #18 Denver could go with Jackson if he sliped or a LB from USC (To each his own) which would be a good start to rebuilding that defense into a 3-4. They picked up some interesting RB in the off season but maybe adding a stud at #18 might be a possibility. They would still have #48 behind us to grab the next best safety or corner which is to be had in that range. If Gilbert was there they would like to pair him with Raji to anchor the 3-4 system. BTW what are they going to do with Dumerville?? I did always like to watch the little guy rush off the edge but do not see him as an OLB??

Maybe we should trade for Dumerville and plug him into SILB for us:D:D:D

It would be absolutely foolish of McDaniels to go after Sanchez.

The Broncos have a solid offense in place. They have talent and depth at OL, WR and TE, and they have a RB by committee (Buckhalter, Pittman, Young, Arrington, Jordan) that is very similar to the one McDaniels used nearly to perfection in New England. It does not make sense to bring in a project QB into this offensive system.

Orton is just fine at QB. He did a lot with very little in his years in Chicago, and gets dumped on more than he deserves. Simms is a solid back up plan. Remember, McDaniels wanted to bring in Simms after the Brady injury. The Broncos will be an above average offense with Orton or Simms.

On defense, Denver has jack$h!t. Their defensive line is best suited for a 4-3. They have no nose tackle, no stud ILB. With picks #12 and #18, they are in prime position to land players who will fit their defensive system to a T. Imagine a Broncos defense adding Raji and Maualuga.

If you're the Broncos, you use this bounty of picks and you draft a defense.

Hester looked pretty good this year. Orton just couldn't hit him deep. Olsen is good.

Issues on the OL? They have Orlando Pace playing LT, a 1st round pick (at LT) playing RT, two good guards, and a pro bowl center.

The real problem in chicago is they were trying to play the run-run-run-chuckitdeep offense, and their QB was ill fitted for that...cutler isn't.

I just do not think Pace is the answer as he has missed 25 games over the last three season. Williams did not even start a single game last year and their two starters are gone (Browns sign OT John St. Clair) and (Bears announce retirement of OT John Tait). Between those two the started 194 games and now they need to replace it with a sophomore who has yet to start a game. The did sign Shaffer from the Browns...but the did not have a good OL in Cleveland. I agree that Kreutz and Garza are good but both over 30 and ?I am still not a big fan of Beekman.

I think their major needs are on Defense at DE, OLB and DB both safety and CB. The do need another receiver to throw to but I do totally agree that Hester is developing quite nicely as a WR but not yet a #1 guy IMO.

People do not realize that Cutler has Earl Bennett his favorite WR from Vandy, on the roster. Interesting.

Interesting I never made that connection. With the release of Booker and Lloyd is more effective in a west coast system they need a Mohamad of 2004 to play opposite Hester. Tory Holt maybe on their radar as they have been silent on the FA market.

How many starts Tait and St. CLair had is irrelevant, they both were awful. They've upgraded both positions even if they only get league average.

Interesting conflicting rumors from CNNSI and The Sporting News.

According to CNNSI, Denver is eager to trade up to #8 with Jacksonville, possibly targeting Sanchez, Brian Orapko, BJ Raji or Tyson Jackson. With an extra 3rd from Chicago they could probably trade up from 12 to 8 and still keep 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Broncos eyeing Jags' No. 8 pick? | Truth&Rumors | FanNation

However, according to The Sporting News, Jacksonville is desperate to trade down from the #8 spot but has gotten no offers. This seems strange to me, as they are a prime candidate for someone looking to trade up for Raji, Sanchez (if he falls past Seattle at #4), a pass rusher, or possibly even Josh Freeman.

Of course, the Sporting News report is by Mike Florio, so perhaps that explains it. :D

Whenever you have so many red chip prospects grading out so closely, it all comes down to which team locks onto which player.

Any trades would require that player to be available. So while most teams have contingencies in place to trade with other teams, it is doubtful that any trades take place until the draft in underway.

I just think McDaniels wants a dirty Sanchez instead:D

Hey, he's the opposition now

The way I see it, I have numbered the potential 2009 NFL starting QBs in order (being prejudice, TB is #1) of quality. These are based a little on last years production, age, experience, was the player just a caretaker, etc. This was not hype, arm strength or potential. It was leadership and ability to run an offense. The last few teams I did not list because they simply are not going to go with what they have or shouldn't.

In my list, Orton is ranked #17 or about mid pack. Should the Broncos give away their two #1's to get to Sanchez? Or should they see if Orton can pick up the "Pats system" playbook and jell the offense into a team, not a one man show. He is a tough kid.

Here is another shocker. What if Mcdaniels trades Orton? Would he consider Matt Gutierrez in a trade with the Pats for second string behind Simms until Sanchez is ready? Matt knows the system and the Pats might take a pick from Josh.

Thoughts?

I'm sure that every one of the draft QBs this year is a turkey. Anyone drafting one is in for a disapointment. If Josh wants a QB, I'd trade one of his firsts to a team that he would expect to finish poorly this year, and wait until next year. With two first rounder picks, he could position for the much better QBs available in the 2010 drafts.

But I think Ortin is coming on. He may be a low rated guy that does nothing but win. Think Brian Sipe, or Bart Starr.

Bradford appears to be a true blue chipper for next year's draft. A future prize.

Mike Mayock has declared Sanchez his #1 QB prospect over Stafford. He also suggests - as I have - that if Sanchez and Stafford go early there could be a bidding war to move up, possibly into the top 10, for Josh Freeman (who he notes is moving up draft boards fast).

If Denver really wanted Sanchez/Stafford I'm sure Detroit would've gladly given up the #1 overall pick for Jay Cutler.
They wouldn't give up their second first rounder (#20) when Denver was trying to work a three-way deal.

I would be very surprised if the Broncos went for Sanchez in that spot for two reasons. McDaniels probably figures he can coach up one of the guys they already have and they have glaring needs on defense.

Interesting read from Peter King on MMQB today: "The three most influential men atop the 2009 Draft are Scott Pioli, Dan Snyder and Sanchez."

Mark Sanchez, Daniel Snyder, Scott Pioli pivotal in NFL Draft - Peter King - SI.com

Pioli, the rookie Kansas City general manager, has the distinction in this decade of being part of the tradingest draft-day team in the league. Between 2000 and 2008, the Patriots draft room, run by coach Bill Belichick and Pioli, made 28 draft-weekend trades. The Pats traded up 12 times, but more significantly, they traded down 16 times. In the last 10 days, I've spent hours (only my cell phone company knows how many for sure) foraging for crumbs for my Sports Illustrated mock, in your mailboxes Wednesday and Thursday. And the one thing I've heard on most calls is, "Well, you know Pioli wants to get out of his pick. He wants to trade down.'' It's true. He does want out. There's not a player Kansas City believes is worth third-pick-in-the-first-round money. Do you remember what the third pick got last year? Matt Ryan, the Atlanta quarterback, signed a six-year, $72 million deal, with $34.8 million guaranteed. Pioli can argue until he's Chiefs-crimson in the face, but his pick at three is going to fetch the player $11 million a year, minimum, regardless of position. Pioli's not picking a quarterback, so there's no chance a player at three will be worth that money. My feeling is Pioli woke up this morning with an itchy trigger finger.

The money is the key. There's no one other than Sanchez worth #3 pick money. Paying $11M/year to an unproven rookie SILB is ridiculous, no matter how much you like Aaron Curry. BJ Raji or an OT would be more appropriate, but I think Pioli's dream would be to move down and take Tyson Jackson.

If Dan Snyder has the Sanchez itch, I'm betting he will bend over and pony up 2 firsts to make it happen. I had it in my latest mock from last night.

If McDaniels wanted Sanchez, the Broncos could have traded with Detroit and gotten the #1 overall pick. Unless he's since changed his mind, I don't see this as any real possibility.

I agree. It's not just McDaniels believing he can coach him up. It's the entire Broncos organization. It makes letting Cutler go more palatable.

I think that Dnever will move up, but for Raji. Any 3-4 needs a NT to make it run. The Broncos were horrific on Defense last year, and that is what needs to be fixed. I think that Sanchez-Stafford will not make it out of the top 5 picks thanks to the sucess of Ryan and Flacco last year.
