We traded Vrabel the day before his bonus was due, so this seems relevant as we continue the offseason. If I haven't made it obvious, I will now. I would much rather have Vrabel on the roster than Jarvis Green.

From what I can tell, it was due on the first day of the league year.

According to Miguel's page, it wasn't a roster bonus but an escalator bonus which he feels Green did enough to meet. If it was an escalating performance bonus, there really doesn't matter when it is paid because it becomes guaranteed.

From Miguel's site:

January 25, 2009 update I am presuming that Green has done enough to earn his $2.3 million escalator for the 2009 season. Green has already done enough to earn $400,000 of the $2.3 million and I am presuming that it is guaranteed. I am presuming that Green has done enough to earn his second 2009 roster bonus because it was based on 2007/2008 playing time. Jarvis played in all 16 games in 2007 and started 10.

I have twice emailed Albert Elias, Jarvis' agent about this. He has yet to respond.

If the bonus is already to be paid due to meeting the requirement, then Jarvis will likely play through the end of the season.

I say BAN HIM from Patsfans for his egregious dissing of Miguel!

First of all, that is a big "if". Second, even if we are "only" discussing Green's salary of $2.5M, the open question is whether how safe his roster position is safe.

1) Our starters are in place for 2009.
2) Green is likely NOT in the team's 2010 plans. If he were, he could be extended now with the attendant cap savings.
3) Wright has been re-signed to a 3-year contract.
4) LeKevin has been playing OK.
5) We have the opporunity to draft a DL in the 15-35 range of the draft.

STARTERS: Seymour, Wilfork, Warren
BACKUPS: Wright, Smith, Hood/Gilbert/Jackson

What would all say Green's value is to the team in terms of "new" money for 2009 services?

Certainly, that number is lower than $4.8M. If the $2.3 is old money, then the decision with regard to whether Green is worth $2.5M can wait until the pre-season.

If the bonus is already to be paid due to meeting the requirement, then Jarvis will likely play through the end of the season.
