TRADES-

Chicago> to Denver-For Jay Cutler QB and Denver 5th round pick= #18, #84 Chicago 2010 first round pick and Kyle Orton QB. To cure McJaygate issue.

Jacksonville> to Denver-#8 for Denver #18 in first and #48 in the second. Josh gets the spot to pick his quarterback his way and jumps up before the 49ers, Jets and Bucs.

New Orleans> to Detroit-#14 for Detroit #20 in first and #65 in the third. The Lions jump back in to get QB Freeman. New Orleans is desperate for added picks. Maybe more picks to come.

New England>to Carolina-#23 and New England 6th round pick For Julius Peppers DE. Now they complete the trade. Brings less then thought to the Panthers but he is 29.

Philadelphia>to Buffalo-#28 and #85 in the third and 2010 Philadelphia second round pick For Jason Peters OT. After two years the Bills can’t resolve the salary issue.

K.C. >to New England>to Arizona-#34 plus James Sanders SS and David Thomas TE For Adrian Wilson SS. AZ has contracts Dansby and Bolden to secure and those issues have taken years. The Pats have to give up starting SS Sanders who is solid and TE Thomas who will have a better chance to start in AZ. Wilson is only 29 and has range and speed at Safety the Pats lack. He is a team leader and huge hitter. Sanders is under contract and that helps AZ.

Tampa Bay>to Cleveland-#50 and #81 For Browns TE Kellen Winslow
The Browns felt they knew something the Bucs did not and they ain’t tellin’.

Houston>to New England-#77 For Laurence Maroney RB. Houston needs a bigger back and Maroney is third on the depth chart but has starting ability when healthy.

Philadelphia>to N.E.- For Greg Lewis WR and 2010 Eagles 7th for N.E. 2009 in the 5th round. A yawner…Lewis is a number four or five on the Eagles depth chart who have no WRs. Does he jump to number three in New England? Oh well! His salary and CAP is cheap.

Nice effort, but no way, no how do I see this happen or would want it to happen.

I'm stunned.... And I don't like this mock much either...... sorry!

I like the ideas, but I dont think AZ trades wilson. He is the longest tenured Cardinal and I doubt he will wont to leave after last seasonl.

good effort not liking the draft though

There is no way in hell that Denver trades up and takes Sanchez. McDaniels said the Cutler trade wouldn't have happened if Orton wasn't included.

Orton is the starter. If the board is sitting like that, and they trade up, its for Raji

Has Peppers signed his paperwork with Carolina? How do we get the cap space to afford Peppers>

Perhaps you are correct.

It has been said Josh is absolutely wild about Sanchez and his skill set. Remember Orton is an FA in 2010.

Big contract issues. They have taken two years to square away Dansby and Bolden. Wilson would be the third issue. The AZ fans are wild and some say get what you can get. I believe it is his final year. Sanders has a signed three year. It is just a thought.

Part1 3 round mock draft with trades and comp picks

I'll give you credit for effort, but the trades are more like "let's dump the players I don't like."

23 for Peppers
34 + James Sanders + David Thomas for Adrian Wilson

BTW . . . you do realize that trading Sanders would probably cost the Patriots cap room before they sign Wilson—and, of course, right now he's slated to be a FA next year.

47 = Jarron Gilbert
58 = James Casey
Maroney for 77 = Paul Kruger

Again, this would cost the Pats cap room.

89 = Eric Cook
97 = Rashad Jennings

Wow, I'm going to have to break this down piece by piece here. There are a lot of problems.

1-1 Detroit- Jason Smith OT Baylor

1-2 St Louis- Eugene Monroe OT Virginia

1-3 Kansas City-Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest

1-4 Seattle- Andre Smith OT Alabama
First big miss of the draft. Andre Smith won't go top 5 with his maturity, work ethic, and character red flags. Crabtree is a better pick here.

1-5 Cleveland-Brian Orakpo DE Texas
Cleveland plays a 3-4 defense. Orakpo is the wrong fit for this D. He's a 4-3 end.

1-6 Cincinnati- Michael Oher OT Mississippi

1-7 Oakland-Everette Brown DE Florida State
If Crabtree gets by Seattle, he certainly won't get by Al Davis.

1-8 Jacksonville> to Denver - Mark Sanchez QB USC
Questionable why Denver would move up for Sanchez when they have Orton in the fold.

1-9 Green Bay- BJ Raji DT Boston College
I doubt he lasts that long. The accusation of testing positive for marijuana might be false or overblown.

1-10 San Francisco-Matthew Stafford QB Georgia

1-11 Buffalo-Robert Ayers DE Tennessee
Big time reach.

1-12 Denver- Rey Maualuga MLB USC

1-13 Washington- Eben Britton OT Arizona
Too early to take a guy that projects only to RT. They're better off drafting a passrushing defensive end.

1-14 New Orleans> to Detroit - Josh Freeman QB Kansas St
Another reach for the bad QBs in a bad QB draft. I see a pattern.

1-15 Houston- Tyson Jackson DE LSU

1-16 San Diego- William Beatty OT Connecticut

1-17 NY Jets- Vontae Davis CB Illinois

1-18 Chicago> to Denver> to Jacksonville- Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech
NO WAY Crabtree drops this far. Jacksonville might go Beanie Wells here to replace the loss of Fred Taylor or take a sliding Maclin because they have no wide receivers.

1-19 Tampa Bay- Brian Cushing OLB USC

1-20 Detroit> to New Orleans- Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State
I don't see Jenkins dropping this far.

1-21 Philadelphia- Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma St

1-22 Minnesota- Darius Butler CB Connecticut
Reach. CB also isn't Minny's strongest need. You need to fill holes with 1st round picks.

1-23 New England>to Carolina- Peria Jerry DT Mississippi

1-24 Atlanta- Clay Matthews OLB USC

1-25 Miami- Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest

1- 26 Baltimore- Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri
Maclin will NOT drop to 26. You've got the receivers dropping to places they'd never get to.

1 -27 Indianapolis- James Laurinaitis MLB Ohio State

1 -28 Philadelphia>to Buffalo- Jamon Meredith OT South Carolina
Reach, this guy is a second rounder.

1 -29 NY Giants- Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland
Again no way he gets this far. A WR with a 4.3 40 will be taken by someone in the 1st half of the round. How you even have him slipping past a Colts team that just lost Marvin Harrison is unfathomable.

1 -30 Tennessee- Evander Hood DT Missouri

1 -31 Arizona- Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia

1 -32 Pittsburgh- Percy Harvin WR Florida
Steelers need offensive line help more than a WR. They already have Heinz Ward and that guy that caught the Superbowl winning TD. Plenty of high quality guards/centers to choose from here.

So I think I disagree with about half of your draft. I wouldn't mind getting Peppers, but I wouldn't want the players that you took for the Pats with their remaining picks. Sorry, I just don't see this draft panning out remotely close to what you're predicting.

Orakpo can be either a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 DE, Texas has played him in space and he has said that he can and will play 3-4 OLB. I agree with what you call reaches but some of the drops can and will happen.

I completely agree. I think you get an A for effort and creativity, but I disagree so much with so many of the picks that it's not worth trying to dissect out the individual choices. Just to take some of the Pats examples, we're not going to dump James Sanders right after resigning him to a 3 year deal, for a player who is a FA after 2009, who will be 30, and who is looking to get a big contract. Supplementing Meriweather and Sanders with an athletic young safety in the draft who can be developed at reasonable cost makes much more sense. Same thing for Julius Peppers right now - too expensive, and at too much cost, when there is great value in the draft.

Again, there are some nice ideas here, and I applaud your effort. But I don't think it addresses team needs that well, and I don't think it's realistic.

I don't agree with you. I think Orapko's a 4-3 end, whether he has played some in space or not. I'm sure he thinks he can play 3-4 OLB. So did Gholston, who I also felt was a 4-3 DE. I do see the Browns potentially taking him, though, just like the Jets took Gholston at #6 last year.

So? If he plays well he'll be tagged. Good QBs are never really FAs.

Where have you heard this?

Mike Lombardi speculated that Sanchez' skill set was a natural fit for what McDaniels wants. But I am aware of nothing that suggests this is not pure speculation.

What Lombardi wrote was the following: "For example, let’s assume they want Mark Sanchez. They have to receive a draft pick that will assure them they can get Sanchez to maximize the value of the trade. The key for anyone knowing where Cutler might be headed is knowing where the Broncos are headed with their quarterback position. Both moves go hand in hand. The answer lies in the kind of player Josh McDaniels wants playing quarterback in his offense. My sense of all this is that it has nothing to do with Cutler returning calls or being belligerent, but rather the Broncos seeing a new player they’ve fallen in love with, i.e., Sanchez. This is just an educated guess on my part, but something usually happens to change a team’s position, and it normally happens when you find a solution to the problem. The Broncos have their eyes on someone, and I’m guessing it’s Sanchez since he has all the qualities McDaniels values in a quarterback."
