Summary of things that stood out to me:

- Reiss thinks we won't get either Peppers or Taylors. Thinks we'll go into the season with Pierre Woods as the starter, w the rest of the gang (Crable, Redd, draftees) vying for time.
- Thinks this is a big year for Crable - the Patriots have done well w their 3rd rounders (Kaczur, Hobbs) and this would be time for Crable to step up.
- Reiss has clearly done his draft homework in the past few months and is getting well versed on the prospects now. I wouldn't be surprised if he reads patsfans and uses this as a resource.
- He thinks we will draft an RB, thinks its still a long term need - thus by association showing a lack of confidence in Maroney.
- Says Brady seems mentally prepared for dealing w coming back w such a injury.
- Talked to a scout who thought #23 was too soon for Barwin. Personally, I trust Box O Rocks more than some random unnamed scout, particularly when we're talking about the Pats value system. How many scouts thought we'd pick Mayo at #10?
- Doesn't think the defense is SB caliber, but does think its better.
- Thinks the CB depth chart is 1) Springs 2) Hobbs 3) Bodden, w Bodden competing w Hobbs.

Get a legit pass rusher through fa or the draft and they will be a hell of a defense IMO.

i dont know how he can say this isnt a SB caliber defense...

it wont be liek the ravens or titans of last yr, but damn if its not top 5 in least pts allowed for the season next yr....and thats i would consider a sb caliber defense....

i believe our pressure on QB's this yr will increase w/ just the ppl we have right now on the roster, and w/ better cb's it would be felt much more

after the draft i think this defense will be scary, and i also think the pats look to next yr for the long solution at RB, simply b/c they have so many ppl who will most defenetly make the roster his yr, and not much room for rookies, b/c we have so many to evaluate (mostly the ones we got last season)

for offense i see an OL or two, and a wr, other than that i doubt we see any picks go to offense, the rest are lb, dl, s

How many scouts thought we'd pick Mayo at #10?

I want to know who Michael Holley thinks the Patriots' pick will be. His prediction of Mayo was early and accurate.

I'm skeptical that Hobbs is above Bodden on the depth chart. I went to a charity basketball game and Hobbs was there. It is usually packed with backups and scrubs who are happy to get some fan interaction, but Hobbs was all pissed off and kind of a ****.

Looked to me like he was in the dog-house.

He said Mayo a day before the draft, if I remember correctly. Prior to that, I don't think he had mentioned Mayo.

Another interesting tidbit from the chat was that he clearly believes the Patriots would draft a guard, and not a tackle if they pick an OL. I found this interesting because I know there have been mocks on these boards with the Pats trying to get a replacement/future RT.

His argument was that Neal and Mankins will both be done with their contracts at the end of this year (depending on the status of the 2010 cap, right?) so they look to him as a solid place to be drafting potential replacements.

Has there ever been a Boston reporter who actually wanted one of our teams to win. At least he hides it better than most. But if you look at his history he has always underrated us and poo pooed us making any significant moves and is then surprised when we do.

Reiss is pretty level-headed. He has no anti-Patriots agenda; rather he's the one guy who covers the team who consistently focuses on reporting and getting facts straight, instead of speculating and prognosticating. That is not really his game. Plus, he gets a lot of letters with wild proposals for transactions, so that is likely why he comes off as if he is saying that things will not happen. I can understand not liking certain reporters---Borges, Tomase, etc.----but Reiss shouldn't be lumped in with those goofs. He has never had anywhere near the kinds of egregious biases as some of his peers.
