Assume the following pre-draft trades:

1. Denver trades #12 and Jay Cutler to Cleveland for Brady Quinn, #5, #36 and a 2010 1st round pick. Quinn is valued at the 36 pick. Cutler is valued as a 2010 1st rounder and an exchange of 2009 1st round picks. McDaniels gets his 2nd choice for QB (after Matt Cassel) in Quinn. He had hoped to get more for Cutler but wants him gone badly, and needs a QB in the package.
2. Cleveland trades #50 and Derek Anderson to the NY Jets for #17 (550 points, or equivalent in value to their #36 pick, so they get equal value for Quinn and Anderson). The Jets get a big strong-armed QB in the Flacco mold, who Ryan knows from Baltimore.

Round 1:

1. Detroit: Matt Stafford, QB. Stafford reportedly blew Detroit away today.
2. St. Louis: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor. St. Louis goes for the replacement for Orlando Pace to anchor their line.

** Trade: New Orleans trades #14 to Detroit for #20 and #65. Saints are desperate to move back into the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
14. Detroit: Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi. Detroit gets their LT to protect Stafford. Oher and Cherilous will make nice bookends at tackle.
15. Houston: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC. Houston gets a versatile LB who can play inside or out. Knowshon Moreno and Clay Matthews would also get some consideration.

22. Minnesota: Eben Britton, OT, Arizona. Vikes get a nice RT to go opposite Bryant McKenzie.
** Trade: New England trades #23 and 58 to the NY Giants for #29 and 45.
23. NY Giants: Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina. With 3 WRs already gone and hearing that Parcells loves Nicks, the Giants trade up for the big WR they need to replace Plaxico Burress.
24. Atlanta: Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi. Atlanta gets a penetrating DT for their defense.
25. Miami: Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut. With Nicks gone, Miami goes for a fluid, athletic CB. Connor Barwin is an option here.
26. Baltimore: Rey Maualuga, ILB. Baltimore gets a physical ILB to replace Bart Scott and learn under Ray Lewis. Vontae Davis will also get serious consideration here.
27. Indianapolis: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida. Imagine what Peyton Manning can do with Harvin in addition to his other weapons, at both WR and out of the backfield. Nicks is also an option.
28. Philadelphia: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee. Philly loves disruptive defensive lineman, and Ayers will be a good one.
29. New England: Connor Barwin, OLB, Cincinnati. The Pats don't wait until #34 to get their 3-4 OLB. William Beatty is also a possibility.
30. Tennessee: Jarron Gilbert, DT, San Jose St. Titans get a talented big man in the middle who may someday fill the gap left by Haynesworth.
31. Arizona: Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia. The Cardinals get their choice to replace the Edge. Moreno slips a bit because of his 40 time, and is a steal here - another Emmit Smith.

33. Detroit: James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio St. With QB and OT filled, Detroit goes defense. Laurinaitis will fit in nicely with Julian Peterson and Ernie Sims. Vontae Davis could be the pick here as well.
34. New England: William Beatty, OT, Connecticut. Pats get a potential franchise OT to protect Brady.
35. St. Louis: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois. Detroit takes Laurinaitis, so St. Louis takes Davis. If Detroit takes Davis, St. Louis takes Laurinaitis. Win-win.
36. Denver: Clint Sintim, OLB, Virginia. Broncs add a nice 3-4 OLB complement to Jarvis Moss. Larry English and Alphonso Smith are also options here.

Very hard work. Thank you. I have my work cut out for me to put something out like that. I would take that scenario but I have my preferences. The only caveat is Stafford. The Lions I thing take an OT at #1 and perhaps Freeman at #20 (or #14 in your scenario). Harrington is a ghost.

Thanks for pointing out the error. That's obviously KC picking Curry at #3.

I'm not convinced 45 is too late, especially this year when the values at 45 may be near the values in the 20's. SF traded #42 to Indy for a 2008 1st in the 2007 draft, which was much weaker. So it's been done. At #34 I think we get a clear 1st round value in a pretty strong draft, so to trade that we would have to be trading with a team which we think has a good chance of being in the top 15 in 2010.

I still contend that Al Davis won't take Crabtree because of what Mike Lombardi(former employee of Al's) said, that he won't take a guy w/o knowing how fast he is. I think if Cleveland gets involved in this Cutler deal it will be in a 3-way IMO. I don't see Mangini doing any favors for his old team in NY.

My 3-way trade scenario would be:

This way if you're Mangini you know Detroit's taking an OT and that leaves Sanchez/Stafford as an optiion at #5.

I love Delmas, as I've made clear. But if I were 100% convinced that William Moore's 2008 performance was due to injury and misuse by the Mizzou staff, and that his 2007 form is more likely to be his true level, then I take Moore hands down. I'm just not quite as certain as you seem to be.

My gut is that we don't see 2 QB's taken in the top 5 picks... there has to be someone left to languish away in the green room, right?

I understand that Seattle would be thinking a few years down the road on picking up their next QB, but why is this the year to draft him? Seems like a lot of $ to pay a guy to sit and wait for more than one season to get off the bench. If I were a Seattle fan, I think I'd rather get the best player available at the slot and then try to get a developmental QB in the later rounds--or is it already "too late" to do that? I don't see the hurry to end the Hasselbeck era.

Which unreal pro day was that? I understand that Maualuga ran a respectable 40, but he reportedly had poor footwork in drills. According to Nolan Nawrocki, "Maualuga, who worked out fully for scouts after pulling up with a hamstring injury in the 40-yard dash at the Combine, appeared noticeably more lean and compact, being clocked at 4.68 and 4.7 in the 40 by one veteran trigger. However, evaluators were not impressed by Maualuga's 'football movement,' with one saying he was 'not clean enough' to warrant consideration by their team."

I'm not saying that he couldn't be a top 15 pick, but "locked in now as a clear top 15 pick" seems a stretch.

Mathews was the big winner from the USC workouts from what I have herd and Malauga did better then his combine but then again I could have done better. I am a fan of Malauga but do not see him as a top 15 lock without getting into his Wonderlic test. He showed poor in Mobile then fallowed that with a poor showing at the Combine. At his pro day he looked alright but not like a top 15 pick.

I'm not saying that he couldn't be a top 15 pick, but "locked in now as a clear top 15 pick" seems a stretch.

I am basing it on his 40 and game film. What more does anyone need to see to know what this guy is going to do in the NFL. Game film, and BB would tell you this, is the most optimum evaluator of NFL talent, not the "trained-up", "Juiced-up" combine numbers. I think he made Matthews and Cushing into the players they are not the other way around.

Rey is going to be a better version of Lofa Tatupu and a future game-changer. I am betting and banking on him not getting past Denver at #12, assuming Sanchez if off the board, which is a given. If he find his way past Denver, again look for BB to make a phone call to Snyder.
