Agreed, Sean - and a little off topic, but I'm a Comcast customer in Atlanta and I have a scroll running across the screen on the NFL Network that says Comcast will no longer be carrying the NFLN starting May 1st.

This is bad people, I don't watch ESPN and now I'm losing NFLN -

Anyone know what's going on other than the same 'ole BS from NFL and the Cable Networks??

The NFL needs to get their heads out of their ***** and realize they can't charge a premium for the NFLN - few cable companies are going to pay that in this economy.

in the scrolling banner. I think that some people still got it for free and now everyone has to pay the $5 to have the sports tier on their cable. There isn't much info at that webpage.

Unfortanetly my apartment balcony faces west so I am kinda screwed on getting Direct Tv.

Yea, I'm confused as well. The only thing I do understand is that after almost 2 years of having the NFLN - It will be gone May 1st on Comcast (At least in Atlanta).

Yes, the NFL is trying to strongarm the cable companies and force them to not only carry the NFLN, but to carry it on the basic cable package. The cable companies want to carry it as part of premium packages. I believe that the NFL also was asking for more per person than the typical basic tier channel receives, but I could be remembering that part incorrectly.

Yeah, Comcast in South Jersey had the same scroll last night about May 1st, so I guess it's everyone on Comcast. I will be going to DirecTV starting in June.

I never minded paying the $5 a month for NFLN, but now I don't get a choice at all? Screw this Comcast crap.

I will do the same, but they usually run a special with the NFL Ticket before the season - where you can get the ticket (all the games) for a reduced price if you are a new customer coming from cable.

Last year it was Free for a new customer, but you had to get their premium package ($79 a month).

NFLN charges Comcast a buck for every subscriber that gets NFLN. So to get their buck back, they put NFLN in a group with some other high priced networks.

What NFLN wants is for Comcast to give it to all subscribers for free. That way NFLN gets a buck for every single cable subscriber. Comcast doesn't want to raise the basic rate a buck when 95% of their subscribers don't care a fig about NFLN.

Comcast is in a battle with satellite TV for subscribers, and have to keep the basic rate as low as possible.

NFLN, though, is aligned with Direct TV, and is pushing that service.

NFL Network is not a Comcast site, it is an NFLN site trying to get people to order Direct TV.

They are all money grubbers. I spent years hating cable companies, and now that I see someone like NFLN so greedy they are actually screwing the cable company, I have mixed emotions. Yeah, it's good to see the cable company get screwed. But of course, the screwing just gets passed on to the consumer.

I pay the extra fee for NFLN on Comcast. It's about $5. Yeah, it would be cheaper if NFLN "won" and Comcast gave it to everyone for a buck. But you know as soon as that happened and it worked, other networks would pull the same stunt, and the basic service would go up a buck every cokuple months as they moved channel after channel from premium to basic.

As there is one thing you can be sure of: if any company is charged a buck for a service, they are going to charge the consumber $1.10, because companies are in the busniess of making money, not losing it.

I'm a Verizon FIOS customer also and I'm glad that NFLN is part of the basic package. It put me over the edge on my decision to leave Cox Cable.

Would be a riot if Sen Comcast had his NFL network pulled by his local Comcast server. Then you would see a change.

Thanks for the explanation! I agree, you would also think that the NFL would realize they NEED to keep their loyal followers and not alienate them with this crap. Sh!t like this will came back to bite them if they're not careful.

Astronomical ticket prices
PSLs
Games only available on NFLN
Overpriced Sunday Ticket
Ridiculous markups on merchandise
Needless limitations of customer speech (think signs, etc.)

All of this and more, yet the customer base keeps shelling out the money and putting up with the nonsense. Now the league wants to add games to the schedule so that games can be played on foreign soil, whether or not there is any value at all the the vast majority of current customers.

The NFL cares about money. It abuses its customers at every turn. It can get away with it because the customers keep coming back for more abuse. We've seen this in baseball, too, and I'm not singling out the NFL. Until the customers stop patronizing the leagues, the screwing of the fans will continue.

I think he's going to have it pulled, looks like Comcast is doing this globally and not just in certain markets.

Looks like I'm going to satellite in June, I don't see the benefit in keeping both Cable and a Dish - However I do admit that I don't anything about satellite TV.
