7 Round Mock Draft
Fun to review. Pretty good draft for the Patriots.
As with many of these, with four picks in the first two rounds, it's hard to go wrong.
His total Pats draft:
23. New England Patriots - Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois*
34. New England Patriots (from KC) - Clay Mathews, OLB/ILB, Southern California
47. New England Patriots (SD) - TE Jared Cook
58. New England Patriots - Conner Barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
89. New England Patriots - Rashad Jennings, RB, Liberty
97. New England Patriots (comp pick) - Kraig Urbik, OG, Wisconsin
124. New England Patriots - Mohamed Massaquoi, WR, Georgia
170. New England Patriots (comp. pick) Andrew Gardner, OT, Georgia Tech
199. New England Patriots - Dan Gronkowski, TE, Maryland
207. New England Patriots (comp. pick) - Cullen Harper, QB, Clemson
234. New England Patriots - Cary Harris, CB, Southern California
Mine, using his board:
23. New England Patriots - Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois*
34. New England Patriots (from KC) - Clay Mathews, OLB/ILB, Southern California
47. New England Patriots (SD) - William Moore, FS/SS, Missouri
58. New England Patriots - Conner Barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
89. New England Patriots - Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina
97. New England Patriots (comp pick) - James Casey, TE, Rice#
124. New England Patriots - Jarett Dillard, WR, Rice
170. New England Patriots (comp. pick) Tom Brandstater, QB, Fresno State
199. New England Patriots - Brandon Walker, OG, Oklahoma
207. New England Patriots (comp. pick) - Travis McCall, FB, Alabama
234. New England Patriots - Sammie Lee Hill, NT, Stillman
CB Davis would be in the mix with Bodden, Springs, and Hobbs, plus Wheatley and Wilhite to make possibly the deepest, most athletic corner corps in the NFL, a tremendous upgrade.
ILB/OLB Matthews would learn behind Bruschi, next to Mayo, creating a versatile, young, athletic ILB corps, or would rotate with Woods on run-down OLB, setting the edge.
FS/SS Moore would rotate with Sanders and Meriweather.
OLB Barwin provides a third-down specialist opposite Adalius Thomas.
OT Meredith would provide an upgrade over RT Nick Kaczur, and could be the long-term LT.
WR Dillard offers another set of great hands, and can play in an inside role with Moss and Galloway outside with Welker in the other inside role in Brady's deadly four-wide package.
TE Casey would likely push unproductive Thomas off the team.
Pats like tall California QB's (see Brady, Cassel, O'Connell).
OG Walker would be in the mix, youth at interior line, competing with former udfa Yates for a roster spot.
FB McCall would be the only FB on the roster.
NT Hill provides good depth and insurance behind Wilfork.
Then I'd look at ILB, LS, RS in the ranks of undrafted.
Robert Francois from BC for ILB depth.
Jake Ingram at LS.
Marcus Thigpen or Michael Ray Garvin at return specialist.
Fun!
