Didn't see any other thread on this, but without focusing on particular players, list the first five positions the Patriots are likely to draft (or need to.) Here's mine:

1. OT/OG
2. DE/OLB
3. Safety
4. ILB
5. WR

And with the sixth pick, I'd look for a future Kevin Faulk replacement.

I think that being blessed with six picks in the first three rounds, it is time for us to pick up a stud OT with the first pick. We will have to replace either Light or Mankins (or both) in another year or two. The other positions can wait in this deep draft.

1. Mlb
2. Ot
3. Olb
4. Og
5. Ss

  2. WR
  3. LB/S

Generally, I don't see any need so desperate as to trump talent of the player at any of these positions. ie If there isn't a lineman in BB's second tier of talent, you take the player that is, be it a cornerback, safety OLB or whatever (quarterback and kicker excepted).

OT- with the 23? A replacement for Light in 2010. His cap value would help. Plus, we replace Kaczur this year.

OG- Mankins will be pricey; Neal is aging

ILB- Sintim is brought in to play next to Mayo.

DE- Moala is falling in some mocks.

OLB- Barwin or English to play behind Taylor. Also, we need to remember that Crable and Redd could also fit this role.

Agree about getting the most talented player, but position-wise, disagree about a WR before LB or OLB.

LB/OLB
DL
DB
WR/KR
OL

OL has the most potential to fluctuate, but there's some depth there. I also see some high potential at DB for rounds 2-3.

DE
LB
S
OG
trade into 2010 or to move up earlier
OT

#23 OLB
#34 OT
#47 S
#58 & #89 trade down for DE/OLB
#98 WR

So sayeth Feep!

#23 OLB
2nd round - S, OL, ILB (in best available order)
3rd round - probably another OL, FB

after that just best available player in any position

23 Best Player Available
34 Best Player Available
47 Best Player Available
58 Best Player Available

What we are lacking imo
MLB
OT
S
OLB

What I hope for
Best pass rusher available OLB/DE If an elite one isn't there I switch need to MLB with 23
MLB
Safety
Best available guard or center
DT
TE
Punter

This thread is too hard to predict because of how players rise and fall on draft today. I'm sure if Crabtree, or Everette Brown fall, all needs and positions are thrown out the window.

#1 - cb
#2 - olb
#3 - ilb
#4 - s
#5 - og
#6 - wr

1st pick- DE/OLB- we need to establish the pass rush, this will make our CBs good.
2nd pick- DE - increases our depth in case of injuries, good DEs might still be available.
3rd pick - LB - a good LB will still be available here.
4th pick - RB
5th pick - S
6th pick - OG

I really hope the pats can land Jason taylor.

I don't see CB on this list. That has got to be a serious need.

Wheatley is only good for a few games before he snaps one of his wrists again. The Patriots gambled one him and lost. He should be playing on a team with a grass field, if he plays at all, not the rock-hard surface at Gillette.

Bodden? He is more of a stop-gap player and not a long-term solution.

I have a good feeling that our CBs this year will be a better, especially if they can estabilsh the pass rush. The 5th pick could be a CB that play at safety and at CB.

huh? Mankins is about 27 or 28, Light is 30. i dont get it

i think we could use help replacing Neal and RT though

These are my picks due to value we can get.

1) OT - Beatty, Britton or Andre Smith or Oher if they slide to #23.
2) OLB - Barwin, Mathews, Ayers and English woudl be my picks at #34
3) Safety - #47 - Dalmus may be gone but Smith, Moore or Chung will do.
4) WR - Nicks, Britt, Heyward-bay, Robiskie or Iglesias may slip to #58
5) DE or DT - Gilbert, Sen-derrick Marks, Fili Moala, Magee or my fav Baker.
6) C/OG - Caldwell, Shipley, Levitre, Canfield, Urbik are all good value for our comp pick.

I don't think that there will be a DE of value at 34. We MAY have a shot at Gilbert or Jackson at 23. Who did you have in mind? I too want a DE by 34. I am fine with a top DE?OLB at 23 if we can get a top one. Brown and Orapko come to mind. English is decent consolation prize if none of the above four are available.

This looks fairly likely also........

ILB - Maualuga, Cushing (1st), Laurinaitis (2nd), Brinkley (3rd)
OLB - Sintim, English, Matthews (1st), Barwin (2nd)
OC/G - Mack, Unger (2nd)
SS - Chung, Delmas, Johnson (2nd)... (Moore not so much)
TE - Barwin(!) (2nd), Coffman, Casey, Hill (3rd)
DL - Brace, Marks (4th)
P - whoever
LS - who knows
QB - ?

My class:
23 - Sintim
34 - Laurinaitis
47 - Unger
57 - Chung
89 - Coffman
99 - Brinkley

yeah, baby... three rookie LBs-- no, it's not a mistake

ITA it's silly to say we should draft position X here and Y there when we have no idea how the draft will play itself out.

The best thing to do would be rank the prospects by position to get the best value with each pick.

ILB - who can blitz, and cover, instincts, smarts size.
OLB - who can pass rush & set the edge
Safety - with ball skills
Developmental Linmen - either NT/OT
Developmental Linmen - either OT/NT
BPA
