UPDATE: link does not work. Someone please google "Taylor patriots top choice" and post the yahoo article.

Hope this link works as I had to type it manually (iPhone). Don't think it has been posted yet. Sounds like it is now just a matter of agreeing on the salary (will be easy, right? LOL)

Kraft clearly wants Taylor and if we believe the sources, Jason wants to be a Patriot. Hoping this gets done SOON!!!

Taylor would be a lot cheaper than Peppers plus he has no major strings attached like Peppers has to his current team thus the chances are much better that Taylor could be the second Taylor signed here in the offseason, but still I say its probably something like a 30% chance of it happening

Taylor to the Pats........... book it :D

re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged

Given the salary cap considerations, I would rather see them just sign Jason Taylor and get it done with. That way they can draft an OLB who may have more upside and doesn't have to start right away.

I like the game that Peppers brings, but I don't like the possible cap ramifications. I'd much rather see them sign Wilfork to an extension.

Amennnnnnnn

re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged

reports are that when in Washington Taylor did not want to participate in any of the offseason programs so he can spend more time with his family. I bet he and BB have already come to an agreement and he will be a Patriots as soon as all of the required off season committments are done with, except for training camp. That way Taylor gets the time of he desires and BB wont look like he is granting favors to new players, or any players for that matter.

I hope the reports are right. I think he could be a real threat in the pass rush and give any rookies time to develop.

BINGO!! I think that you are right on with this

Basically what I think, as stated in the other thread :

BelichickFan said:
I also think it's likely we'll sign Taylor - in fact I think we probably haven't already just so he doesn't have to be in Foxboro all offseason - or have to answer questions about why he isn't. He's played for Saban before so Belichick knows how he could use him and Taylor understands the concepts so he wouldn't need the indoctrination time as much as others. Peppers intrigues me as a medium term solution but the money and draft picks needed for him make Taylor more attractive to me.

Exactly. If BB was willing to let a vet like Roman Phifer hang on the west coast to be with this family, I'm sure he'd make the same exception for a seasoned All Pro like JT.

Just goes to show the differences in a confident veteran coach like BB vs. a first-time, self-conscious & diffident coach desperate to show the team he is in charge.

re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged

I saw the article about a source close to Jason saying the Pats were his #1 choice, but I don't remember where.

Not exactly a poor fallback plan from Peppers, but we better draft a 3 down OLB.

Unless BB thinks Woods, Redd, Crable, and TBC can cover the first two downs (or Taylor if it's 2nd and long following a sack or penalty).

re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged

If this is true it means means there's no pressing need to to waste our #1 pick on an OLB project, so say goodbye to pick #47 (or 34) and hellooowwwe Rey Maualuga.

Anyone who throws water on that scenario is either insane or has some other agenda. :)

Right, I'm just thinking long term, but I suppose any of those guys could be blossoming into a 3 Down OLB. I have a feeling Woods is going to turn out special. Not based on hard data, just a feeling watching him progress until he joined the face of the month club.

re: Sources close to Jason Taylor: Pats are top choice (Yahoo)-merged

Let's not get to excited. Just because the Pats are Talyor's top choice doesn't mean that the Pats want him, or are even interested.

Also, Kraft didn't exactly say he wanted Taylor. He said:

"Great player," owner Robert Kraft said with a big smile while at the owners meetings. "I'm sure that can happen if he wants it."

In other words, if Taylor lowers his price from the $8 million he turned down from the Redskins to less than the three million we cut Vrabel for, then he can make it happen.

When a player comes out an says Team X is my favorite choice, all that means is that team X has not yet seen fit to sign him.

This is a fishing expedition, that's all. My guess is thaat Taylor want $$$ more than than he wants to be a Patriot.

Taylor didn't turn down 8 million from the Redskins. The Redskins cut Taylor because he saved them 8.5 million against the cap since they didn't have any signing bonus money to worry about.

Taylor wasn't a happy camper in Washington for a variety of reasons. Also, the fact that he nearly died because of the leg injury he sustained probably didn't help matters any and is probably why he wants to spend more time with his family this off-season.
