Harrison Rips NFL Rule Changes

NFL safety Rodney Harrison is not happy with the NFL’s new rules. Here are some of his comments:


(Note: NFL officiating czar Mike Pereira joined the show earlier to defend the new rule changes.)

“It’s crazy. You’ve been taught since you were six and seven years old to finish the play.”

“Football is supposed to be a man’s sport.”

“The game is going to slow down and it’s going to get softer.”

“It’s like patty-cake right now.”

– Harrison doesn’t think that Tom Brady thought Bernard Pollard put a dirty hit on him. “I feel like Tom is a second-effort guy,” Harrison said. “He’s a guy who doesn’t give up on plays.”

– Harrison says the one rule they should get rid of is the chop block. Harrison doesn’t mind if Hines Ward hits a guy up high. Harrison just doesn’t like the low hits.

That's sad. Rodney is okay with defensive guys playing a man's sport and playing hard and hitting QBs and WRs when they are vulnerable, but is opposed to chop blocks and WR's hitting DBs when the DB is vulnerable?

Talk about hypocritical. I'm surprised at Rodney.

Taking quotes like that and piecing them together for a story, I call BS on that until I hear Rodney say it and in the context for which he went it to be.

Bruschi was on NFL net a few weeks ago and was joking that with guys like Hines you have to keep you head on swivel and watch out for that I would think with the comments Rodnet just made he would agree with Bru.

What Rodney is saying is you dont go at a guys knees....he doesn't care about getting hit him or if he can see it (cause he should see it) just hit him in the mouth not the knees.

I recall he was mad about the low hit to his knees in the Tennessee game, I'm sure if he got blasted up high he'd ahve just got up and taken the number off that bus for paybacks.

I agree with that 100%.

I don't care what the comments are, Wussification of the league, No Fun League, whatever - There are rules against hitting a kicker, right? While I don't think that the NFL needs to protect QB's to that degree, hitting at or below the knee is cheap and should not be allowed.

Rodney means well, but he's wrong.

I don't think the damage to Johnson could be put in the same context, Ted was the one doing the hitting and it was usually head on at the line of scrimmage. I remember reading an NFL running back saying running into Ted was very painful and that once a head on with Ted cracked his helmet !

The damage to Ted was too many head on hits, playing/practicing with damaged brain tissue, lack of a complete understanding of the damage being done and compared too today's helmuts, subpar equipment.
