NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

Didnt see this anywhere before:

Owners will implement rules changes but not to overtime

» If a pass rusher, who is blocked into the quarterback's legs or into the ground on the way to the quarterback, continues to run or drives forcefully into the player, he'll draw a 15-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty and be subject to a fine. Call this the "Tom Brady Rule." The New England Patriots' quarterback suffered a season-ending knee injury during the 2008 opener on a hit by Kansas City Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, who claimed the contact happened by "accident" after he was blocked into Brady's leg. Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss disagreed, saying after the game the hit looked "dirty" to him.

Guess the hit wasn't so "clean" after all.

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

Should have been implemented after it happened to Carson Palmer a couple years back.

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

I thought the rule was changed in 2006 and there was a 15 yard penalty for hitting QB's below or at the knees.

Seems Vince and Sey were flagged numerous times.

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

Wilfork wasn't flagged for his hit on JP Losman 2 season ago. Which in fact started the Edwards era. Actually, I should be thanking him, lol.

Behold the power of Tom Brady, NFL Quarterback.

That was a much larger man who had a much harder time to gain control when blocked. A safety is much more athleatic to avoid when he is blocked. I remember the reaction of Kimo von Oelhoffen after the play, reminded me of LT back in the day when he snapped Theisman leg.

LT hit:

Palmer hit:

And finally did Wilfork have to put his elbow out as he fell???

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

I thought this was just under consideration. It was discussed on Mike and Mike this morning as if it's not a done deal yet.

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

Clearly this is part of the league conspiracy to help the Patriots win.

Is Bill Polian not part of the rules committee anymore? :singing:

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

Personally, I don't like it. The league is too reactionary based on one or two isolated incidents (see the Roy Williams law). I think it will hurt defenses more than protect QBs.

He was fined for it to.

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

Improving player safety is the primary motivation behind three recommendations that are expected to be approved in voting by all 32 team owners during the four-day meeting:

So where exactly did you see they instituted it? This is a article about stuff they will be voting on........

EDIT: Probably should change your thread title way misleading

Wow, I've never seen the hit on Losman from that second angle. If you don't think that was intentional, you need your head felt.

Re: NFL institutes "Brady Rule"

But no flag??? Things happen in the trenches very quickly.

Nope, no flag. It was as plain as day what he did and everyone could see it. I bet it was the fact that Losman was still holding the ball when Wilfork was on his way down. Of course, he was supposed to wrap up Losman not elbow drop him like he was pretending to be Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.

The best argument that it wasn't intentional--why would the Patriots want a better QB coming into the game?

Talk about egg on Wilfork's face. Edwards drove them down for a touchdown on that drive too.

This is what I was thinking and you try to stop 350lbs on a dime....I really doubt before the play he said to himself, "I wonder if I can take his knee out so he cannot continue to have a horrible game":D:D

I think Wilfork was happy with the end result of that game. Egg in his face that was a good one. Greg "The Hammer" Valentine was a figure four leg lock type of guy. I think you are looking for the Macho Man Randy Savage.

I didn't mean as a finishing move, I meant just trying to wear a guy down. From a standing position, "The Hammer" liked to drop a few elbows.
