Kraft said yesterday that Brady will wear a brace on his knee this season.
Three questions. How much does a brace protect his knee? Lets say he was wearing the brace when he got hurt. Would the injury have been the same? Also will this change the way Brady can move in the pocket?

brady has worn brace before also in some games even without the injury. i read somewhere that it helped him somewhat with firm footing or something. ironically the KC game was one where he didnt.

I'm not sure a brace would have made much difference on that particular injury. They give support to the knee, but they're usually flexible enough that the knee would still bend in whatever direction it was hit.

Pollard hit Brady with a lot of weight. Brace probably wouldn't have changed anything.

Ehhh It's typical, most players coming back from knee injuries usually wears a brace 90 percent of the time anyways.

There goes his mobility. I hope he can make an transition to "pocket passer"

Really the guy should be wearing an armored suit out there.

It will affect him until he gets used to it. So, Tommy if you are reading this ;) put it on NOW!!!!!!!!!

"Hello. Tony Stark speaking."
"Hi. This is Bill Belichick. We need to talk. . . ."

:D

I would disagree, while I'm sure you can find many that share that thought with you - I think if he had been wearing a brace it would have minimized the damage. My thought is based on reading & hearing some local Dr.'s talk about the hit.

Would it have saved the season? Probably not, I agree that Pollard lunged with all his weight.

well the brace that you wea for a acl tear is reinforced down both sides with steal and is designed so that you can't extend your knee/takes pressure off the part of your knee where the acl is. i have the same one at home it just depends what setting it is on i thin it would obviously effect bradys top speed running but it would stabalise that leg so his acl doesn't have to do all the work.

So Brady won't be as fast as he was previously?

Ok, we'll take the trophy now. :D

Payton Manning has worn one on his front leg for years, ever since he had a scare a few years ago.

I think it is something to adjust to, but probably shouldn't dramatically effect his play.

Nothing is going to affect Brady's top speed running.

He was slow before (and making jokes about it) and he'll be slow after (and making jokes but with a brace on).

So there's probably going to be no discernable difference in his speed.

Of course we'll all be screaming for him to "get down Tom - - - get down, slide slide."

:D

Well, he is on the Colts. And is very horsey looking. Easy mistake to make. :D

We could easily get 30 more years out of brady. Make it happen!

I was just wondering...could this brace have blades or little spears or something that pop out from the side upon impact? Maybe deliver an electric shock, at least? No? d%#*!@t. :(

Luckily, I'm sure TFB will manage just fine wearing a brace anyway!

They could market this brace to Raider fans.

While discussing the proposed rule on TV, they replayed the Pollard hit about 412 times this morning. I guess it made me a little pissy. Beyond my normal 'getting ready for work no coffee yet not a morning person pissyness', that is. I'm better now!

I'd leave this to an Orthopod, but I don't think any brace is designed to protect its wearer from a hit like the one that Tommy took. I think it's purpose is more to give him extra support as he moves around and maybe prevent reinjury that is motion- and not impact-related. But, I'll concede either of those points to anyone who knows more about it than I do.

Brady was slower than McDaniels before the injury, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that top-end speed isn't a crucial part of his game.
