New England now has six selections in the top 100. They have their own first-round pick (No. 23 overall). Three third-round selections -- No. 34 (acquired from the Chiefs for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel), No. 47 (acquired in a trade with the Chargers during the 2008 draft) and their own pick at No. 58. Then they have a pair of third-rounders -- their own pick (No. 89) and the compensatory pick.

I think the big one (obv) is the #3. It is the first one after the regular #3s and should in a spot to land someone decent.

As pointed out, I also believe BB will be moving some picks (can't move these new ones, but...). He always does - he has many in this draft - he has quite a few quality players and therefore limited spots.

I'd personally like to see them move one the the 2s for a 1st next year (maybe someone who thinks they're a playoff team would figure it's not that much diff).

Bottom line : as much as I enjoy the potential to add to the squad, I need to believe more will be used on D than O. I'm not choosy - it can be anywhere on D. Even the DL that some will say is of quality. They will be moving Seymour (or letting him move himself) eventually, I have to believe.

Here is hoping that a the Pats come out of this draft with 1.) a grip of legitimate talent and/or 2.) a ton of ammo, aka picks, for the 2010 draft. 2 first rounders in 2010 would be amazing.

Yea imagine trading up to the first round so we will have 2 dominant players in the first round this year then trade our later picks for possible first rounders next year!

BB has shown he is not scred of moving up a few spots. I think he did so to grap T. Warren. He also moved up to get the infamous WR C.Jackson.

I'd be quite surprised if they moved up to get another #1 unless it's packaging the #34 they got for Cassel. But something tells me (even though I can't produce the proof) that the #31, for example, which is 2nd to last in round 1 is much more expensive than #34, the second pick in round 2. And unless there is a beast there for the taking, I'd be kinda surprised to see BB make that jump on account of the dollar signs.

We'll see in April. Let's sit back on that weekend and enjoy the ride. If they make a crazy Moss-like trade, that would really jumpstart 09 - though I can't see a deal being that lopsided going down again. Even Peppers for a 3rd wouldn't be the steal Moss was... he even came cheap.

I would say OL can use some upgrades. This line as is will have trouble against strong D lines the likes of Giants, Steelers, and Cowboys.

I wouldn't hate that. To be honest, if the Pats had a top 10 pick, I'd probably predict they'd go that route because I think BB likes the value at that spot in the draft for OL. BUT... Scar is a beastmaster. I'm quite a bit more worried about stopping their scoring than our own scoring (yes, I am using I and WE even though I'd clearly have a hard time surviving even the easiest non-contact drill in July).

One minor correction. The Patriots have only the compensatory pick in

the 5th round. Their 5th round pick was traded for Greg Lewis and a 7th

round pick in 2010.

Pretty much what I expected. I thought our 3rd round comp for Asante would end up being 97, and a 5th and 6th is about right, much as I had been hoping for a 4th.

Right now I see our mostly likely trade picks being #58 and 89. I can see using #89 to trade into 2010, or potentially to package with one of our day 1 picks in order to move up. #89 + 23 gets us to around #18; #89 + 34 gets us to around #26; #89 + 47 gets us to around #34-35; and #89 + 58 gets us to around #43. I would like to see us get at least 3 really top prospects out of the first day, and trading up may help to get them. With the #97 pick, we should still be able to get a quality prospect early on the second day. I could also see us trading #58 into 2010 if there is better value there.

Can't wait to see what we do on draft day.
