Looks like the new NFLPA is considering asking Congress to examine the NFL's tax exempt status. Perfect time for Senator Comcast to butt his decrepid nose into league matters again for the sake of Comcast...ummmm... I mean the country.

MAY open the door..am surprised PFT hasn't been digging up these things.. I do not get that impression from him..today he was meeting with Goodell and who knows what came of it...he wanted to get to work and to keep football going (OR so he said...talking more about lockout in a tangental way..) No he wanted to get to work WITH Goodell on issues...so I think it's more a threat than what he wants...kill the goose and NO ONE gets rich.. A week ago I would be alarmed..but I have heard him twice and...he seems level headed..

I know all about the limited antitrust exemption in regards to television, but I guess I had missed the fact that the NFL is a tax-exempt organization also. Not that they are the only one that makes one scratch your head at this designation; the NCAA is another that comes to mind that does not deserve to be tax-exempt.

I wouldn't worry. Senator Comcast is very busy deciding whether or not to sell his vote on Card Check. He's seen Dodd et. al. really benefit from selling out and now he wants his before it's too late. COMCAST money is minor league compared to the mortgage & financial stuff.

I agree...it's mostly that..opening up a can of worms may not be to football's liking..both the platers AND owners...and in this bad economic time..having it crumble will only make things worse...Look at baseball an dhow the MLB owners have projected for this year...DOWN!! And football?? May be more flat..but..I think he knows that if he creates too much og a stir..football could slip HARD!! Many never forgave baseball after the mid 90s...football?? 15 years later could do the same. THAT is why I think smarter heads will prevail... Oh..then there's idiot Foodell...OK...maybe more trouble.

The NFL should not be tax exempt and taxpayers should not have to subsidize stadiums. If they can't make it on their own tough. We have too many goddam tax exempt organizations, churches, private schools like Harvard that pay no friggin in taxes. Then the taxpayer just bends over and ***umes the position.

What you are describing is called "pass through tax".

While that is definately a legitimate tax practice, to help you avoid paying double taxes, I don't think it applies in this case. I am sure the NFL keeps some money.

The only tax exempt entities in my opinion should be not-for-profit organizations. The NFL should pay taxes like the rest of the business community. But for the life of me I can't see why a group like the players union, who competes for a slice of those profits, would be moronic enough o point it out

No sure what there is to gain...I agree owners have less money and THAT helps the players?? Somehow this is not thought out at all...and REALLY to me just something that was thrown in there without thinking..

They either a) Used to play football, or b) Now play football...nobody said the players were a collection of mensa candidates. This sounds like a bit of a bitter and poorly thought out responce to something...tax the nfl and the money pool just got cut in half. But-given the economic times, maybe it is time things like this were addressed, last time I looked all but 3(?couple weeks back on Nightly News, don't hold me to that 3?) states were showing up in the RED, need to find cash somewhere or we're looking at some problems...or the gov't needs to find a way to stay within their means, but who are we kidding

People like yourself just don't get it. You think that by taxing places like HARVARD or levying more taxes on companies that they'll be "paying their fair share." You're wrong. The cost just gets passed on to the consumer. That's fact.

Taxpayers should have to subsidize stadiums and there is nothing that says that they HAVE to. The politicians are the ones who make that Devil's deal. But then, the politicians also realize the amount of revenue that stadiums bring in over the course of their life outweighs the subsidy that they pay.
