BELICHICK SKIPPING LEAGUE MEETINGS
Posted by Mike Florio on March 20, 2009, 5:33 p.m. EDT

Head coaches typically attend the annual league meetings in March.

This year, Pats coach Bill Belichick won’t be there, according to Tom Curran of NBCSports.com.

Per Curran, Belichick has been busy with draft preparation given extensive turnover within the front office and coaching staff. Belichick, the rest of the coaching staff, and director of player personnel Nick Cesario have been on the road for the past two weeks, and they’ll head back to Foxborough on Monday night to continue hammering out a draft board.

At least the owners won’t have to listen to any of Belichick’s singing.

ESPN is gonna have a field day with this.

What's a wrong with a bunch of nfl dudes getting together and kissing each other's asses???

Oh you bought your 3rd yacht! That's great, maybe your team can win more than 3 games this year!

BB is busy preparing.
The others are having a ****tail party nice.

I'm sure this makes people hate him.
I love it.

Yea, i think its great thats hes trying to make this team better than go on a vacation for a couple days and BS with all the coaches!!

If anyone doesn't like it they can go **** themselves. BB knows what he's doing and doesnt need to go to the league meetings. Gonna be hated even more but tough ****, he has the best football mind in the league.

work on that draft board Bill! Draft winners- The New England Patriots

2009 Draft trumps league meetings.

Pats are loaded with picks, so they can't sleep through this one!

I am sure there will be others representing the team..I agree he has other things to get done..

Good for him - this is a huge draft for us and . . . screw the morons in the NFL anyway, I would never forgive them for what they did in 2007 if I were Belichick. I'd never show up to anything - other than Super Bowls that I was coaching in :)

Had I drafted Bethel Johnson, Marquis Hill and Chad Jackson with my #2 picks I know that I'd be working overtime to ensure I didn't piss away major chances to improve the team. Way to go Bill!

Not being at the meetings avoids dealing with a number of unpleasant issues currently plaguing JMac. Its no secret that very likely the Cutler trade will be resolved during the league meetings. Since this whole flap had its beginnings with New England and BB, its probably a good idea to avoid the place altogether.

Belittle him? By saying that he's working hard to help with continuity in personnel evaluation during a time of heavy turnover?

Usually he's there, this year he's not. Seems like a small but perfectly legitimate news nugget.

I would bet the house, that reason would never even enter BB's thoughts.

Business is done at the meetings. Are we really so brainwashed as a fan base that we're going to ignore this? If Belichick doesn't want to go, that's on him, and I assume he has his well thought out reasons. However, lets' not pretend that it's nothing but booze and hookers at the meetings.

At least he has got the perfect alibi to miss them.

IMO, tHere's no business that can be conducted in a conference setting that can't be accomplished by telephone in 1/10th or 1/100th the time.

But I'm wondering what business he did at last year's meeting that was so important it had to have been done there. Do you happen to remember?
