Bill Belichick, speaking on WEEI in Boston, confirmed that no trade talks have taken place with Carolina Panthers concerning Julius Peppers.

Belichick points out the Carolina is not allowed to talk trade with anyone since he's unsigned. He also indicated that he wouldn't do a trade strictly through an agent, and situations like this can take months. He was complimentary of Peppers' skill, but said any trade talk was speculative. Belichick didn't exactly squash the rumors, saying a player that wants to get traded should sign his franchise tender.

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

that's not at all what I got out of that interview. shoddy reporting.

My sense was that they've explored it and the door isn't open, but that if it happens it's going to take a while and it's complicated. He absolutely did not brush it off.

lol.. I love Pregnant Pauses!!

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

I came away from the interview thinking the exact opposite. Sounds like the possibility is still very much alive.

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

he just brought him up again

i think he wants Peppers. he just said basically, he's one of the best players in the league and he would fit into any system.

This guy gets it.

Anyone who has listened to BB over the years should know after this interview that there is still a ton of interest in aquiring Peppers.

Couldn't agree more. He gave the standard, "we only talk about our own players" when the Jason Taylor question came up, but did a total 180 when regarding Peppers.

I thought there was a 10% chance of Peppers coming here prior to this interview...now I think it's 50/50.

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

Me thinks, people hear what they want to hear.

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

I'd venture to guess that coach has talked to Peppers and his agent.

Whether or not something can be worked out at the league meetings is another issue entirely. Carolina can hypothetically discuss what they would do IF they had control of Julius, and New England can try to come up with the cap room.

I still don't see how we can fit him under the cap, unless he wants to get lowballed.

exactly... I don't think Peppers can play OLB for us. he's stiff in the hips and he's played in a 4-3 for most of his career.

Belichick said today that he thinks Peppers can play in any system.

perhaps you weren't listening to the same interview I just listened to, where Belichick said that he would fit into any system, BB-speak for "you're stupid if you think he can't play OLB."

I think they're trying to make this happen, but he's realistic about how much crap would have to go through for it to work. But I'm pretty sure after that interview, and how much he discussed him, that they are working hard to try and land him.

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

To anybody saying he can't play OLB in the 3-4. He is signficantly more athletic than Willie Mac was when he had 4 sacks against the Jags in the playoffs.

It will take some adjustment time, but it can happen if we decide to pursue him.

Re: BB on Peppers (Today)

I just don't think he can make the transition. I would love to be proven wrong.

As a long-time BB listener, that tells me there is ZERO chance of Peppers coming here. If there was the tinest chance, BB would not be talking about it.

OTOH, by not mentioning Taylor at all, it increases the likelihood of a deal getting done.

The OP had it right. You guys don't know your BB pressers.

Please don't embarrass yourself with that "stiff in the hips" crap. The guy is a freakishly good athlete. Are you actually trying to say that you noticed this watching him play? During which one of his 14.5 sacks last year did he look stiff in the hips?

I missed all the Peppers talk, but I agree here.

BB not comenting means something.

:rofl:Yeah, the stiff in the hips thing was coined by someone without a clue.
