Curran: Why Peppers to Pats may be tough

Re: Curran:Why Peppers To Pats May Be Tough

The Patriots will be better on defense just by virtue of tightening things up across the board. Having Springs/Bodden/Hobbs out there instead of Hobbs/O'Neal/L. Sanders out there will make a big difference. If the coverage holds up a little longer, they'll have a little more time to get to to the quarterback.

In a perfect world, sure you'd rather have Peppers. But when you figure in everything else -- including the fact that a Peppers deal probably means no Mankins and Seymour extensions -- it's probably a wash. I'd rather they picked up a couple of young linebackers and just increased the team speed across the board. And if they traded up and got Maualuga, giving you another impact linebacker, you have to figure that they can make do with whomever at that other OLB spot. Maybe you have Woods in there on running downs and Crable on passing downs.

The Pats roster is so jacked up now that they can basically devote the rest of their resources to fixing the linebacker problem. They'll figure it out, with or without Peppers.

seymour and wilfork will ask for tons of many anyhow. the only difference is that they will have one more example. if they are offered more they will leave ...if not they will stay.

Re: Curran:Why Peppers To Pats May Be Tough

According to this article, Peppers has said he'd like playing in NE. But you know how reliable "sources" can be...

Re: Curran:Why Peppers To Pats May Be Tough

I for one will never again get my hopes up based on rumors or sources again. I had high hopes now I feel kinda dumb actually for havng false hopes.

As for the olb pass rusher we greatly need yeah it's great having all those early picks but I just don't see that ware, merriman, or suggs rushing potential in any of the players there's actually alot of questions about those players. I'm afraid were going to have the same concerns going into the season bout where's the 3rd down rush going to come from, cause it sure as hell isn't coming from woods or tbc.

Yea i feel the same way!! I am listening to PFW in Progress and they had Vic carrucci on and Vic stands by his article saying that Peppers agent and the Patriots are talking. But, thats speculation. Im just gonna sit back and just see what happens. If he is signed it will be on draft day(speculation).

Is that todays pfw? Another thing I'm thinking about is with all this talk about how bb wants peppers and is right now trying to work out a contract with peppers if this wasn't true would bb come out and deny everything if it actually weren't true?

Well he just says why it's tough. He didn't say it's not going to happen. We were aware of the potential problems with the salary cap before the article came out.
