The Draw Of Playing In New England
What is the attraction with Foxborough, Mass.? And why does it seem that every offseason, high-profile free agents are drawn to play for Bill Belichick and the Patriots? Today, we try to answer these questions and show that the Patriots are indeed the ultimate destination for NFL players who want to win championships.

My favorite piece is this paragraph

"Before you throw “Spygate” at me, let’s be honest. Every team in the league does it. I played on teams that had a guy go through the visiting team’s hotel after they checked out to look for any type of game plan material that was “mistakenly” left behind. So please, don’t go there."

I love reading up on all the ways that these teams are spying on one another.

The New England Patriots are the team that every other club in the NFL wants to be — whether they admit it or not.

This is truth. Good article, thanks!
It would be easier to list reasons NOT to play in NE:D Well, taxes I spose:banned:

Grrrr. Every time someone mentions "spygate" I see red at how unfair it was to take aware our 1st round pick last year. Imagine what could have been? Kenny Phillips to go along with Brandon Meriweather? Trading #31, 63 and 94 (999 points) for #16 (1000 points) to get DRC along with Mayo? Don't remind me that "everyone does it". We already knew that.

Quite the tribute

Taxes? Really?

Seriously, the whole Taxachussets thing is way overdone. I'm really learning that now that I've moved out of state.

Out here, we've got an 11% sales tax. Our income tax is being raised to the same as MA. Property taxes are higher. Taxes are on everything (no food and clothing exemptions like in MA).

Thread hijack: Lots of new tax ideas being bandied around, such as food, plastic shopping bags, gas, etcetc. A coworker of mine who smokes cigarettes said the tax on them went up again as well.Raising the tolls is another idea. They seem to nickel and dime people here. I wouldn't say the tax issue is "overdone" at all; I'm sure it's not the highest in the country but it's up there.

Yup, I live in California now. You guys have it easy in Mass.

Naw, its really not. We're already taxed on all those things. Seriously, I pay taxes on EVERYTHING, and get almost nothing back (roads stink, crime is bad, etc).

As to playing in NE, theres something to be said about working for good management. Nothing makes a job less enjoyable than knowing that the people above you are incompetant.

Not too long ago, The Tax Foundation, a policy research group, estimated the average taxpayer's total state and local tax burden for each of the 50 states and DC. It included what residents pay in state and local income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, luxury taxes and fuel taxes, among others. Massacusetts ranked 32 of 51, with Maine (#1), New York (#2), Rhode Island (#4) and Vermont (#6) in the top 10.

well this could have been a nice thread, instead I get educated in taxes.

Back to the topic

Reading the comments at the bottom of that article makes me laugh, people on their arguing about the steelers being better than the patriots because they have 6 rings...I think people need to realize when talking about a team being better than another team that you need to keep it within a decade, not from 1902 when Bradshaw was slinging the ball around. The fact is, even though the patriots havent won a ring in a few years, everyone knows they are still the champions.

Another reason to play for the Patriots.

In future, try not to bother us with facts, please. Nothing like tax facts to ruin a good Mass. rant.

One of my favorite lines from the article is:

"The Patriots are the USC of Pro Football."

Seeing those two teams next to each other reminds me that a good deal of the credit should go to Bob Kraft.

Taxes? go to the Political forum!

Its a former player, giving up his player hater status. As we all know, this is a Kraft mentality, BB just happens to agree with the standard and is given the freedom to execute his plan under the Kraft umbrella. The two want situational football, coaching and ownership.

Look at the coaches who have left and failed ....

BTW, the article made me shed a single red, white and blue tear....

:D mine too...Very nice !!

Great read. LOL. That's why some teams have to pay double to get free agents, yet the Patriots this year have landed the cream of the crop at affordable prices.
