FYI :

"Also, according to NFL sources, there is a third phase to the Patriots' offseason strategy. They would like to further beef up their linebacking corps by adding an inside linebacker in the draft. They are known to believe that USC's Rey Maualuga would be a great fit for their scheme, especially when paired with Jerod Mayo, their 2008 first-round pick who was the NFL's top defensive rookie. However, some early projections suggest it might be long shot for Maualuga to be available for the Patriots with the 23rd overall pick."

Thank you, even in the internet world of border line ethics... It would have been low brow and self-serving for me to post this...

But the reality is I would have posted it in a second but I was too slow. Ethics, smetheics... this is the web.

So the 2009 starting defense looks like this? Really? I wll take my chances.

--------CB - Hobbs
----LOLB - Thomas
------------FS - Merriweather
LDE - Seymour
-----LILB - Mayo
NT - Wilfork
-----LILB - Maualuga
RDE - Warren
------------SS - Sanders
----ROLB - Peppers
--------CB - Springs

Nah, Peppers moves Adalius to SILB.

I'm with cstjohn17, a defense of Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Thomas, Mayo, Maualuga, Peppers and our new defensive backfield makes me slobber like a baby.

I find the phrase the Patriots are known to believe that.... to be laughable. Nobody knows whom the Patriots are interested in outside of the front office, and none of them are talking to the likes of Cariucci or any other media source.

I was thinking last night that if Maualuga is still there after pick 15, we should trade up and grab him.

But what about Clay Matthews? Will the heart stop beating?

So in your scenario, who is the nickel back? Bodden, Wheatley or Wilhite?

If Bodden plays like he did two years ago, he starts. I'd love for Wheatley to stay healthy and take the other spot. Hobbs can play nickel. Have Springs start at FS and Merriweather at SS. Suddenly, our defensive backfield looks legit:D

Signing Peppers would really improve our pass rushing abilities. But I love that idea of having Wilfork out on passing downs and have big sey and peppers and green on the line.

If BB feels that Rey is the better choice, and Matthews ends up with another team, he's dead to me.

I'm a big two-timer.

Write it down, Vic was fed info from Fred Smerlas leaked to him by the information desk at Patriots Place. It is all a wild ploy to bring Suggs to the Pats... wait and see.

Considering their former GM and former Offensive Coordinator have been gone from Foxboro only a couple of months, I can easily believe that word may be out. Lots of extra picks should secure their targets, despite the leaks.

Not sure who "knows them to believe" this, but I know that I believe that they believe that Maualuga is THE man they need to snag in the draft this year. :singing:

Even IF we get Peppers we still need to draft a LB. I would be happy with any of the top ones to groom.

I'm with you. This is the time of year no one wants to be in a committed relationship.

Guys, this is getting ridiculous!!! If this all is true and we get Peppers and Maualuga at a price with which we can still work other things out, like signing wilfork, than my dream actually would come true. Maualuga is and was my favorite player from the beginning.

I actually am convinced that we would go 19-0. I will probably bet my house on that. :rocker:

completely agree, I have always wanted to see what their board looks like in comparison to other teams/prognosticators. I bet the differences are glaring.

I love the idea of having him inside next to Mayo, no other player in this years draft would make me smile more than Rey. You get the middle linebacker from college football's best defense. He is already playing in a pro style system, albiet under Pete Carroll. Alright he's got a Pee Wee coach but whatever, the guys a BEAST.
