If they plan on doing the deal between March 20-22 and the April draft, why would the news leak now? Something is fishy. Either it happens now or it doesn't at all. BB doesn't show his hand like that.

Chiming in to ask how this could work cap wise, aren't we pretty tight against the cap keeping the signing of draft picks in mind?

If they plan on doing the deal between March 20-22 and the April draft, why would the news leak now? Something is fishy. Either it happens now or it doesn't at all. BB doesn't show his hand like that.

The answer to this and the cap question could be one and the same. Maybe the only thing keeping this from happening is Peppers working out a long term deal with NE, or NE making the necessary cap moves to clear enough space.

There is an interesting thing about trades. There are always at least 2 parties involved. It might not be BB showing a hand.

NFL Network well more NFL radio has been hyping this up a bunch this offseason....I know I will be hitting the refresh button a bunch during the owners meetings hoping this will happen

Maybe he's gonna restructure to a prove-it deal (not that he has much left to prove) just so he can run away from Carolina and cash in Bodden-style in an uncapped '10.

Seems like a big price to pay (#34 overall I mean) for one year with a guy, no matter how good you think he might be. I can't imagine they would be doing this unless they thought they could get him for multiple years.

This is not going to happen (at least not in a vacuum), because:

a.) The Patriots don't have the cap space

AND

b.) Adam Seward is still available

Was a #2 for C. Dillon (which was basically one good year) worth it ? Yes, they did resign him for more, but it was only in that first year he was super valuable. I'd say YES, it was worth it - because he brought the goods in they won the SB.

where is our cap update? How can you say its impossible or its BS till we get an up to date account of the cap? Remember that with any trade for Peppers would mean the pats would be resigning him to a long term more cap friendly deal. Also the money isnt any different than if Cassell was still here cause the cap hit is about the same. Not saying this is gospel but this might be the smoke before a huge barn fire. This will be the bar none scariest Defense on paper that any Patriots team would ever have

Carolina floating the idea to drum up trade interest. Why not, Pats have a hole, so the link is obvious. But if true, some veteran cuts may be necessary...Bruschi would be my first cut...but I'm just a cold-hearted SOB
