Mike Wallace - WR and returner

Don't we already have this in Greg Lewis?

I'd hope for a highly rated WR if we draft one.

I think that Lewis was discussed as a returner when he was signed. In the last 3 years, he made a total of 11 returns, 8 kickoff returns for an average of 15 yards and 3 punt returns for a 2 yard average. His total return yardage for his last six years was under 200 yards. I don't think that Lewis is the answer as a returner.

Ah, ok. I was wondering, but hadn't seen the stats.

It leaves me wondering what Lewis' role here will be. Hm.
Anyway, the thread caught my eye. I thought you meant this guy...

Mike Wallace, Mississippi, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com Football

I think many here had him on their earlier mocks. He seems a reasonable pick in the 4th pr perhaps the comp 5th, depending on how Belichick evaluates him and his chances of being drafted in the 4th or 5th.

I've been touting him for a while now, and have had him on a number of mocks. My favorite 2nd day WR. 6' 200# with 4.33 speed, good hands, and excellent return ability. NFP called him "The wideout no one is talking about. A gifted vertical threat who gets up to speed instantly. He has a skill set similar to Darrius Heyward-Bey, but Wallace made more big plays during the year." Not too shabby for a 2nd day guy.

I'd be thrilled with him in the 4th, though at the moment we have 6 WRs and roster spots will be hard to come by.

I don't want to jinx him but he has run a lot faster than 4.33 in the past.

I'm riding shotgun on the Mike Wallace bandwagon. (Insert joke here about how on Sunday, he'll give you a full Sixty Minutes. Ba-da-BOOM!)

I like what I've seen: Caught a TD in the Senior Bowl. Good work in Cotton Bowl vs. Texas Tech. Ssshhhhhh... he's a sleeper.

I don't think I agree on that, Mayo. Sam Aiken counts as a Kelley Washington, WR in name only. Slater has to work his way onto the roster. That leaves 4 essential locks , one of whom is an injury-prone 37-year-old on a one-year deal. A mid-round developmental prospect still makes sense, IMO.

I hope you're right. I would take Wallace over Slater in a heartbeat as a return guy, and he offers much more upside as a true WR. But I could easily see our current 6 WRs as our final 6 - not my preference.

Slater did well on ST (tackling-wise). Wouldn't be shocked to see him make it as a fourth-string S/ST.
