ProFootballTalk.com - JULIAN PETERSON THE NEXT VETERAN TO BE CUT?

Now that would solve our short-term OLB needs. Negatives: 1) refused to take a pay cut and 2) age. Positives: 1) experience as a 3-4 OLB (I think he played @ Michigan St w/ Saban, and 2) sacks!

At the right price, I'd love to get him - he's *only* 30.

Edit: added question mark to title.

Edit 2: He's 30, not 29.

While I agreee he is a great player he is more of an OLB in a 4-3 then a OLB for our scheme. He is kinda in the same boat as Derrick Brooks, a great players but with Mayo we really have no use for him. With so many teams moving from 4-3 to 3-4 guys like this are having harder times to find jobs.

IIRC, didn't Belichick and Pioli have their eyes on him before he signed with Seattle?

Just consider this.... If we signed him, we could truly just draft the best player available at any position. This would make for a very interesting draft indeed :D

I was under the impression that the niners wanted to keep him as a 3-4 OLB as well. Wikipedia lists him as 6'3" and 240 pounds. A bit light for sealing the edge, but the guy's a player.

That sound you hear is Jason Taylors's leverage dropping off a cliff

I still think that between Peterson and Taylor, Taylor is more likely to join the team. Peterson will still be looking for pro-bowler money, and if he really would fit in New England, that means that he also fits in KC, Denver, Miami, Cleveland, Baltimore, San Francisco and Green Bay. Most of those teams have more cap dollars to overspend on Peterson.

Yeah. In fact, he may have visited, but I don't really remember. He hasn't slowed down a bit, though. Still one of the top defensive players in the league and unlike Taylor and Peppers has extensive experience at the position.

One of the top defensive players is pushing it. I can think of about a dozen better defensive players in the league. Start to make a list and see what I mean. There are about 5 LBs I'd put ahead of him, never mind adding in DTs, DEs, etc. But his is probably one of the top 3 or 4 OLBs in hte league (after Demarcus Ware, James Harrison and maybe T-Sizzle).

Anyway, Taylor played 3-4 OLB for Saban in Miami. Where did Petersen play 3-4 OLB?

He's being traded to the Lions.

If we cant get J. Taylor or J. Peppers then i think we might move up to grab a consistent Pass Rusher in the draft!

Aaron Curry, Maybin or Orakpo now pop on the radar for the Seahawks, no?

At Michigan State, for Nick Saban.

Did Saban run the 3-4 while at Michigan State? I know he ran the 4-3 at LSU and is running a 4-3 at Alabama.
