Was wondering who would fill the void?? I was thinking it might be Aikens as he has a few years on ST and might have been groomed for that...but what about someone like Alexander?? Thinking in th3 long run if he was kept..maybe Ventrone in a few years..OR might they bring in a ST specialist?? But captain??

My guess is Pierre Woods... That's where he's made a name for himself.

Ghost will be the captain.

Does anyone know if Brad is still our ST coach?
Thanks.

I think Eric Alexander. He's a ST staple. He does well there, but just can't seem to break into the LB rotation (reminds me of Izzo). I don't think Woods, because his role on ST will be lessened this year do to the rotation at OLB

Did Kelley Washington sign anywhere yet? He had been the 1st guy downfield and making ST plays more often than Izzo or anyone else the last two years.

Sam Akins was the ST captain in Buffalo. I think he also made the probowl as a ST selection. I thought when he was brouight in last year, it was to take Larry's place. This year he will.

The best ST player we have is Pierre Woods but right now he is a starter on defense I doubt that he would be a serious candidate.:D

In the Lombardi thread, there is speculation that Bruschi would be moved into this position. He certainly has all the right credentials and in many respects, would be an upgrade.

THAT is interesting,,,and it WOULD be an upgrade to some degree..only because of his experience on teams and all he has seen...which is WHY I think Izzo's leaving is a big loss. It's not just play on the field..but experience in situations an dknowing what to look for in fakes etc etc..I really do NOT think some of the others have that experience..Aikens may and that would be fine..but Izzo has seen it all and then some and was really aware of the smaller things that tip off a play.
Interesting speculation about TedyB...

I'm with Lombardi-I like Bru for this role.

It's hard to tell... something tells me Woods doesn't have the years or the cache yet to assume the role without older players thinking it a bit premature. To put Bruschi is interesting, but it is a "sass" for a stater of so many years ?

I think the more interesting tidbit is that Izzo's departure means much, much more... For example : how many years have the fans been saying Lonnie was wasting a spot, Izzo was wasting a spot ? But now - once most fans have just resigned to the fact that BB loves Izzo, Lonnie, throw Vrabel in there - that they finally make the move towards a new direction. I think the fact they let Lonnie & Izzo go is much more telling and interesting than the new ST captain. Is anyone else onboard ?

I think THAT boils down to $$$$$$...and what other teams wished to offer..surproised more about Larry than Lonie..

Bill went on record last season saying that Ventrone is the lynchpin of our coverage units. Teams actually try to double him and that leaves someone else uncovered. One of the reasons we started breaking to the line out of a huddle was so teams couldn't tell where Bubba was launching from.

I think the ST captain will be someone who primarily plays on those units. Otherwise Tedy or Vrabel would have bumped Izzo out of that slot long ago. I think Tedy is still much more of a force in the regular LB rotation. May even see him playing less on ST to save his legs. He's much more likely to get a nod as a defensive captain this season what with all the young and new faces and Vrabel and possibly Harrison gone.

Yes... I agree that Ventrone could be that kind of player. He doesn't have the years either, but something tells me he has the kind of hussle and grit vets enjoy.

ventrone still with us? if so him, otherwise aiken

i hope alexander doesnt make the roster, i dont care about his ST plays, we cant really afford to have a ST player who plays nothing but ST anymore, not w/ all the young guys we have to groom on defense
