But I'm getting off track here. Don't be surprised if there is still "unfinished
buisness" between these 2 franchises and because of that even more eyebrows waved among the pundits with speculations as to the politics and nature of these transactions.

Where am I going with this? New England has 4 picks in the first 2 rounds. Kansas City has one. Expect Kansas City to trade their 1st Round pick (#3) to New England for New England's 1st, and 2 of their 2nd's (the lower 2 towards the end of that round). It makes sense. New England is still playoff bound. They don't need alot, but after losing Vrabel, Colvin, and Willie McGinnest,I think its fair to say that an impact Linebacker is not only a need but a necessity and that's where Aaron Curry comes into play. New England wants him and Kansas City will have him. The loss of the 3 previously mentioned frees up enough cap room to accomidate a large contract. In fact, New England can pick yet another at the top of Round 2 (which was KC's pick before the Cassel deal)

And The Chiefs? They don't have to worry about the financial considerations of taking a pick that high and then would use their 3 picks(all from New England) on whoever they choose. Pass Rusher, Offensive Tackle and Linebacker maybe? As a Chief fan I am not an advocate for this deal but if they choose to trade down who better to trade with? Of course, writers will have a field day with this story, but we can all take this with a grain of salt. SO THERE. Don't say I didn't warn you

I don't think so.

"is not only a need but a necessity"

Ah, unlike those "needs" that you don't really need.

Anyway...he's pretty much on an island in claiming the Pats have plenty of cap room, isn't he?

When the trade went down, I was thinking that it was Vrabel, Cassel, and #23 for #3 and I liked it. But then I thought that all the other cluns would absolutely KNOW that the Pats were going to target Curry with that pick, maybe this is a way to disguise that. If this trade happens (and the Pats get Curry) watch the conspiracies theories begin to fly.

However, I highly doubt that this will happen.

point #5 tells me tepper has no clue what he's talking about. no need to read past that.

Unlikely, but assuming Curry falls to KC (which he won't if Detroit is smart) I wouldn't totally rule it out.

This guy makes a good point. Don't know why people are so resistant to the idea that that NE now has the least need to upgrade multiple positions on their roster than probably any other team, while the KCs and Detroits of the world are most in need of multiple day one picks.

Does anyone really believe that Scott Pioli wouldn't salivate at the idea of exchanging #3 for #23, plus picking up 2 second rounders?

By all accounts Curry is the one sure-fire can't miss prospect. If the Patriots figured out a way to get him I wouldn't argue it. Having said that, Detroit should take him #1 if they have any sense at all. If they don't the Rams should jump all over him, despite needing an OT pretty bad now that they cut Pace....

I'm pretty sure we will stay with our picks and move around some in the late first and second rounds. Curry is a dream scenario that won't happen.

For what can be had with the 23rd pick and two of the second round picks, I think its a loss to trade them all for Aaron Curry. Say the Pats could have William Beatty, Patrick Chung, and Connor Barwin... would you trade all those guy for one linebacker prospect?

For everyone that thinks Curry is guaranteed to be a NFL superstar, I think of all the failed top picks that were considered either "safe" or sure to be a superstar. Everyone hates on the Lions for taking Charlie Rogers, but no one predicted that he would bust. Peter Warrick was a bust. Curtis Enis equals bust. Robert Gallery equals bust. Derrick Johnson was supposed to be a star at linebacker and has largely gone unnoticed in KC.

To trade all that for Curry, I would have expectations of 151 tackles, 14 sacks and 4 INTs in the first year. For a career, I would expect him to go to a couple pro bowls and bring home a championship. No one player wins games, so teams should bank on one player.

I agree its alot to give up for 1 player. But here's another way you can look at it, how would you feel if with all those picks we ended up with the next Chad Jackson, Adrian Klemm, Bethel Johnson, Eugene Wilson, Marquis Hill (RIP), Lawrence Maroney, Ben Watson or Daniel Graham. All of which were 2nd rounders or late 1st rounders. You never know. But in the end, I dont think its worth the risk. To much money for the #3 pick. If he's a bust, you're in alot of cap trouble.

I would file this in the far fetched but interesting category.

I wouldn't call it part of the Cassel deal either that is stretching it....

But if BB thought that much of Curry he may have laid the ground works(Come draft if Curry makes it to 3 I'll swap and give you some 2nd rounders back think about and call me when your on the clock) and leave it to Pioli and the 2 teams ahead of KC in the draft.

I would love to have him as long as we Re-sign Wilfork. This is a must imo.
Its not like BB to trade up this high for a pick so I don't think it will happen.

Interesting thought. I would love for that to happen. Do the Patriots and KC have to tell the NFL this is happening officially or can they hide it until draft day?

Aaron Curry appears to be the most N.F.L. ready of the lb's. He is a true olb. Rush-Tackle-and cover. I do not believe that the Patriots will get him unless he pulls an Andre Smith over the next 5 weeks. Patriots are primed to be at the top of the league again. Adding a Veteran like Jason Taylor for one year or acquiring Peppers via trade would make it very likely the Patriots challenge for the title again this year. Winning now is our formula. One year at a time- one game at a time. Patriots seem to deal to the future with draft picks-utilize veterans for now production.

Interesting but doubtful, IMO. In order for the Patriots to give up so much for one guy BB would have to be certain that this is the second coming of a clean LT and he will never be injured.

Well Kc added about ten players last years draft, albiet they were Herm's. The question is how does Pioli feel about what he already has on the roster. He solidified the Qb position and brought in veteran leadership. So what serves him best right now. Getting the best possible player he can right now. I'm sure we'll be trading with Kc on draft day, I just don't see us moving up to three or them moving off it.
