Will the Pats be dancing with Jason Taylor?

I'm all for the idea that players need to attend workouts to get the feel for the team's schemes. I understand it breeds unity. That said, I absolutely would love to have Jason Taylor show up in training camp and rush the passer for the Patriots this fall. I would be all for an incentive based contract, because if this guy stays healthy he can add some serious juice to the defense.

he should know our plays already from the videotape miami had of us

Signing Jason Tayor would, without question make my off season. He is a perfect fit for the Pats. He wouldn't have to carry the defense. He could be a role player, especially in passing situations. Now we would have a 4 man OLB rotation of Thomas, Taylor, Woods, and Crable, with a 2nd round draft pick, some College DE who can take his time in converting to an 3-4 OLB. Its a perfect short term signing that will SIGNIFICANTLY improve a rather enimic 2008 pass rush. How good would he make A Thomas on the other side. :D

Sounds like Taylor does not want to work his butt of in training camp like the regular joes (and all the other lunch pail NEPs).

Is this a trend in the NFL? I remember Michael Strahan blowing off camp all last year - he just didnt want to do it - and then showed up to play a few weeks before the season.

I suppose some guys can really pull this off. I also could imagine that BB might take a hard line - all for one, and one for all.

Thoughts?

Not if he charges 7 million dollars a dance.

I just don't see it. I would rather spend that money on extending wilfork.

For what it is worth I was listening to the NFL Channel on Sirius Radio last night coming home from work. A man from Yahoo Sports was talking to the hosts and he was saying that Taylor is having contract talks with the Pats and a deal might be formed in the next couple of days. He sounded pretty confident that Taylor would be a Pat. I know I am pretty vague here on details but it was late (for me) and I was driving home in the sleet.

Not a deal for 7 million,,,,,atleast i hope not

If he wants to do a Leigh Bodden deal and take a one year minimal contract in order to "prove himself" and play with a winner I'd be all for it. :D

Was just listening to a replay of "Late Hits" on Sirius and they were interviewing Jason Cole from Yahoo Sports and also covered the Dolphins for 15 years. He remains close with Jason Taylor. He stated that..

Jason's agent is heading to Miami next week to see what Taylor wants to do.

That he's pretty sure Taylor will end up in New England. Stated that when Taylor was going to be traded last year New England was the top team on his list but Miami would never make that trade. Also reiterated the relationship between Brady and Taylor and BB's feelings toward Jason.

Said after the Washington-Giants game last year he was talking to a very dejected Taylor after the game and he said he's sick of being on losing team.

Now I'm not sure just how close Cole is to Taylor but he seemed pretty confident in his prediction. FYI

Well you just basically backup and confirmed what a previous poster said (with more detail :) )

Signing Jason Taylor is a no brainer.. Signing him at 7 Million dollars and not extending Wilfork is Crazy.. I want Taylor but not at a price that it looks like..

Seau gets a pass, a lot of vets do, he is a pro, needs to stay on top of his fitness. And get up to speed on our schemes. He can start out as a situational rusher and work his way into the grove to play more snaps.

It will come down to the money of course.

without any basis in fact, I am almost certain he will be with us next year. He will also be graciously given some time of in camp once he demonstrates proficiency in BB's scheme (like Moss was). Yeah, I know, Moss was injured and "on the bubble" ;)

I'm equally certain the "no off-season workouts" was partially true on his part, but dramatically overstated as way to force the FO's hand in order get the **** out of Washington.

I think everyone needs to shake this $7 million thing. Jason Taylor gave up money and let the word "cut" get attached to his name, went home and didn't even make any visits with teams. His bullseye isn't a dollar sign anymore.

He's not coming for vet min, but remember, this guy is a player. Bill makes average guys look good. Excellent guys end up looking like monsters in NE.

When this signing goes down (well if, I guess) the draft is almost completely devoid of need and aimed at value/future considerations.

This would certainly go down as a historic off-season.

Yeah, just saw that post after I posted mine. Cole didn't mention $7 mil specifically, but he did say he expects Taylor won't be taking a pay cut from what he was supposed to make this year with the Skins. He also made it sound like there's been no negotiations up to this point and they won't begin until Taylor's agent visits him in Miami early next week.

Well you did a much better job posting on what was said. When I made my post about hearing the report I was hoping someone would elaborate. So thanks

No problem. It's easier to take notes when sitting at desk as opposed to driving. LOL
