We all tend to assume from the QB position, But does anyone haveany lingering doubts or concerns about the position?
Also, ommit Cassel's success in 08' as part of your arguement.

Re: Brady wildcard.....

I absolutely do, but we'll see.

nothing we can do about it one way or the other.

Brady was the #2 his second season with the team.
Cassel was the #2 his second season with the team.
O'Connell will be the #2 his second season with the team. If the Patriots felt there was a better option than O'Connell, he'd be in Foxboro already.

I believe that in O'Connell Belichick trusts. I know that in Belichick I trust.

Re: Brady wildcard.....

I messed up. Is anybody worried about brady's effectiveness..... He suffered a pretty major injury.

Agree. I've said in other threads that O'Connell is already used to get backup snaps in practice. Unless Belichick is having second thoughts about O'Connell's potential, I doubt O'Connell sees less work/responsibility in 2009.

Re: Brady wildcard.....

FWIW, Brady isn't a very mobile QB to begin with. By mobile, I mean Steve Young mobile. He isn't going to take off and run 80 yards for the score. If he can drop back, plant, and throw...he will be just fine. His brain hasn't been damaged, nor has his arm.

There will be uncertainty with Brady between now, and his first pass of 2009. No amount of speculation in the world will change this. This is no different than what the fans of San Fran/KC felt with Montana. The difference being, Montana's injury was to his arm, and he was 7 years older. How did things turn out for Joe those last 2 years of his career? Digging deeper... Miami fans in 1994, Cowboys fans in 1994?

Re: Brady wildcard.....

Fret not my Patriot brothers & sisters.........the G.O.AT. will be back, same as he ever was!!

Make your Miami reservations now!

Re: Brady wildcard.....

I have ZERO concern about Brady other than a look of horror if he gets hit low again. Brady will see to it that he'll be ready for the season without a hitch, of that I have no doubt.

Re: Brady wildcard.....

Tom Brady is one of the top 10 players in the history of the NFL. You're worried about the position? If a priest is giving him his last rites, i'd worry a little. But, only after remembering how god damn great he's been!!!!

Re: Brady wildcard.....

i suffered pretty much the exact same injury brady did about 2 months before and i don't have trainers taking care of me i am moving just as well as i did before the injury. the guy isn't a rb or a wide reciever he is going to be fine

exactly hes a pocket passer!! He only moves if he has to!! Brady is in his prime and had a full year to rest his shoulder!! We will be fine!!

Then i suggest he get rid of the ball quicker this time. By the end of 07, he got into a bad habit of holding onto the ball too long waiting for Moss to be open 80 yards down the field. That look of horror is going to occur on my face, everytime he does that this coming season. I do not want him getting hit at all,,,,,,,,now that we know he can get hurt :D

Re: Brady wildcard.....

Tom Brady is our QB.

That was the short answer. The long answer is no, I am not worried.

Re: Brady wildcard.....

For a QB, knee injury is not as bad as let's say a RB. There are a lots of QB that have come back from knee injury with no issues. The one that comes in mind is Rivers, and I believe he had his best season last year.

No, hes not Steve Young, but saying hes immobile is ridiculous. a HUGE part of Brady's game is sliding in the pocket and making time. Hes going to have trouble with that.

Plus, the idea that hes going to repeat 2007 is ridiculous. It was a career year. I think most of you are in for some dissapointment.

No. I have no concerns whatsoever about Tom Brady. In fact, I think the ridiculous speculation that he will somehow be less of the player has motivated him to work even harder than he normally does. This guy is dedicated to proving the doubters wrong.

Regarding mobility, I've long considered Brady the best mobile QB in the NFL. He's possibly the best ever. People confuse "running QB" with "mobile QB." The most important thing for a QB is the ability to react and move in the pocket. Lateral movement, stepping up, avoiding the rush, putting yourself in the best position to make the throw you need to make...these are the important things that a QB needs to do. These are the things that he's working on now, and the things that are starting to feel good. 4 months before he even has to put on shoulder pads.

Thanks Dave - for those who don't know (as he doesn't post here enough anymore), Dave DOES know.

I agree, great point. It's amazing to see Brady's uncanny ability to step up out of pressure without letting it distract him from where he wants to put the ball downfield. "Feeling" the rush seems to be a significant factor in making some of the worst QB's in the league exactly what they are.

As for the OP, I'm the opposite of worried about Brady - I'm very excited to see him play this year. It was fun seeing Cassel and the boys rally together to not let their season fall apart, I'm ready to watch Tom and the rest of the offense do their thing though.

Pardon my incorrect use of the word mobile...running QB is what I meant.

Brady will seem not like himself till he feels comfortable. Whether that takes 2 series, or 2 games is anyone's guess.
