Sounded like a bright kid. Quick summary.

Said NE was his first choice and stop. Wanted to come here from day 1.

Him and NE couldn't agree on money for a long term deal.

Wants to show NE what he can do and then sign a long term to stay here.

Other teams were interested but no blow away offers. Decided his best bet was to get with a winner and show what he can do on the field as opposed to signing a so so long term deal elsewhere and get stuck in a bad situation.

I love that 'prove-it' attitude. Sign for lesser money knowing that you will kick @$$ and boost your value.

I agree. He sure seemed like he wanted to prove, and specifically to the Pats what he can do in a good system. He realized that playing last year on an 0-16 cover 2 D hurt his value this year.

0-16 will leave that kind of mental scar on you I guess. lol

The kid made a wise choice... as did the pats. im glad they didnt let him get away.

Definitely gotta love that attitude.....he has every reason to really get at it this year. and he has a head start having been under Romeo.

0-16 to a team that went 16-0 two years ago...and 'slipped' to 11-5 last year.

UPGRADE!

Good signs. Let's hope he looks a lot better in our system than he looked last year.

I liked Bodden and his 6 INT in 2007 for the Browns. I can't believe we got him for the vet minimum and I hope he gives us reason to sign him long term in the next 12 months.

Thanks for the info I heard his 1 year deal is for 750,000 not too bad, I like that he feels he has something to prove so he can earn a long term deal.

This is a huge Signing. Our secondary is going to be feared by all around the league

Funny Matt1073. I needed a good chuckle!!

Wish it had been a longer term contract

Either he will be good or he will suck.

If he sucks we wasted our money.

If he is good, he will command more money that we will pay and he will be gone.

Why not a contract with a big second year in case he is really good?

He could very well be the starting CB moving springs into the nickel role/backup safety. We haven't see this depth at CB in a long time.

Gotta like that NE was his 1st choice and that he takes the short-term deal to prove himself, but moreso gotta love Cramden's avatar!!!

Thanks for passing this along, NFL.com's Vic Carucci reports that the deal is for 1 yr and $750K so it looks like he does want to be here and prove himself.

Thats just great to hear about players coming in our way. Can't wait to see what he'll do on the field. I hope they get a CB in the draft and have Bodden mentor him!

I really don't care about that, I want a good year out of him in 2009 and we can let the chips fall. I like guys playing for contracts, they usually play better that way.

If nothing else, Bodden and Springs are probably better than Fernando

Bryant, Deltha O'Neal, Lewis Sanders, and Jason Webster. Interestingly

enough, Bryant, Webster, and Lewis Sanders all played for the departed

Dom Capers in his various other gigs around the NFL.

Bodden over Mike Adams to shore up DB situation ?!?!?! Wow ! Now, enough of this logical football talk : on to more baby Brady updates.

ps : Is there anyone out there who would be comparable to Bodden ? For instance, would he be similar in production (maybe not style of play) as Tyrone Poole in his better years or could we expect more ? I am not too familiar with Bodden other than the 2 or 3 posts about him...

I wish too but as its been said a long term deal couldn't be reached. Bodden is a smart guy he foresees everything you just said. Look at it as a low risk high reward type deal for this upcoming season. If he does well and we can't afford him, the FO will replace him and remember Wheatley and Wilhite are also waiting in the wings.
