Re: Just heard WEEI Flash the signing of LS, Nathan Hodell

31 year old guy who was released by the Cardinals last month, for those wondering.

Re: Just heard WEEI Flash the signing of LS, Nathan Hodell

Also confirmed by one of the newspaper web sites, but not one I'd link to. ;)

Watch for a fullback, but that means that the team has essentially no needs entering the draft. Free to target 'top available.'

Coaching can take care of that skill deficiency.

One l. Hodel. Long-snapped for the Cardinals since 2002.

While we have bodies to fill OLB and S, I would still qualify those as needs.

And, guess what . . . he was released by the Cardinals.

In addition to FB, I still think that we have needs at S, OLB, ILB, WR and DE.

Gasper: New Long Snapper

From The Cardinals

Hodel (pronounced HOE-dul), 31, is a veteran of seven NFL seasons, all with the Arizona Cardinals (2002-08). The 6-foot-2-inch, 238-pound long snapper handled the Cardinals’ long snapping duties in every game from 2002-08, playing in 112 consecutive contests.

In 2005, Hodel served as the long snapper on each one of Neil Rackers’ NFL-record 40 successful field goals. That season, Rackers made 95.2 percent of his kicks (40-for-42) and was selected to the Pro Bowl. Hodel also served as the long snapper when Rackers tied an NFL record with three field goals of 50 yards or longer on Oct. 24, 2004.

Re: Gasper: New Long Snapper

This guy is pretty good. He's been their long snapper for 6 seasons, and obviously has been snapping it for Neil Rackers who has had some crazy success there.

He also showed that he can snap in pressure spots this season, which is very important.

This is a signing confirmed by the Patriots in a press release.

Re: Just heard WEEI Flash the signing of LS, Nathan Hodel

Certainly needs for depth.
The team clearly needs a pass-rushing OLB.
The team is weak at WR depth - their #3 is really a #5 type.

However, they could play a game with this roster.
They do not lack a starting center, a QB, a nose tackle.

They can take a safety in the first or third, or even fifth, and do OK.
They can take an OLB in really any of their top three or four picks.
They have the flexibility to move around, or simply take the best value.

Believe it or not, Wikipedia already has it. I wish I knew who was keeping it current--he's like lightning.
