"ESPN's John Clayton anticipates the Jets and Titans showing interest in Torry Holt once he's released.

Clayton thinks "two or three more" clubs will join the bidding. The Rams likely would take a seventh-round pick for Holt at this point, so if some team gets serious they could get him for cheap. He might need a new contract, though. "

March 17th is his expected cut date, if we spent a 5th for Greg Lewis, I think T Holt, is atleast worth a phone call to see what the Rams would take prior to the 17th.

The NY press is already on them about Holt after passing up TO

Here's the guy we want playing opposite Moss....

All right the Titans and the Jet's, that's great ,but whom on those two teams are gonna get him the ball. Now with TB he'll have the ball before the pre-:cool:snap read is over.

Re: Torry Holt can be had cheap......

Wow. I would love this. I wonder what it would cost in terms of contract and whether we could afford it.

I think he's got a lot left in the tank. He had a decent year last year. Not great by his standards, but Bulger sucks. He's got decent size, doesn't really fumble, and still can generate some YAC with a QB who hits him in stride.

I bet he's going to get a good deal. Man, I'd love this. I hope he doesn't go to the Colts or something.

Re: Torry Holt can be had cheap......

I would be ecstatic if they acquired Holt or Galloway. The idea of one of them facing constant single coverage with Welker in the slot and Moss commanding the double, it would be an exciting passing offense to say the least. If they want to draft a receiver I am for it, but I would rather have those picks go to defense early and bring in one of these appealing vets. Maybe draft a project at receiver in later rounds. I am liking this offseason, no big AD/Moss type additions but quality that will turn this into a deep, balanced team.

Holt - count me IN.
All day.
Moss, Welker and Holt picking apart defenses?
Oh yeah.

Holt is an impending cap casualty. He'd have to agree to tear up his contract. He's also coming off his worst season in terms of production since his rookie season. He's certainly worth a 7th round pick if he will agree to a reasonable salary.

Torry Holt: Career Stats

I also have some questions about how his knee will check out. If he's not healthy, he won't be worth having.

Doubt it. Besides I think we might be done with the aging receivers with bad knees. I want a bigger more physical receiver if we pick one up in the draft early too. I would love Nicks or Britt.

I would not be against Holt but its not a huge need if we were to actually sign a FA.

It would be asinine not to give up a 6th or 7th for Holt RIGHT NOW. If he goes to the jets for nothing, I'd be pretty frustrated.

I think people are forgetting that we traded a 5th round pick this year for a WR.. I would not mind Torry Holt, but I dont think its going to happen.. We need to focus on some Lb right now.. We do need another Wr, but think that is going to come in a draft pick

I'd take a flyer on Holt, but would prefer Galloway. Galloway can still burn, while Holt has been sub par for 2 season now. He supposedly rededicated himself last year in the offseason, to prove he wasn't washed up after 2007. The fact that he sucked so bad, despite being in passing situations on a bad team, raises some concerns for me. I do understand that the Rams are terrible though. Maybe a change of scenery, and a better situation as a 3rd option would make all the difference. He's old, but not ancient. Still, I'd like Galloway first.

I disagree, Galloway just can't stay healthy.

The problem is his contract we simply cannot afford him unless he is willing to rework his contract, with that said he will probably is going to be dealt to the jets or rams.

He's missed 19 of a possible 128 games since 2001. From 2005-2007 he missed 1 game. Last year he was clearly unhealthy though.

Oh I don't believe the Jets are done in free agency just yet. They have become the Redskins of the AFC.

There are a lot of good receivers in this draft though. And not just in the first.

I just looked at Holts numbers and he did have back to back 93 catch seasons in 2006 & 2007. So he did not have back to back subpar seasons as I initially said. He yards per catch were career lows though, which could mean he lost a step.

ithink after the lewis trade i doubt the pats would be players for holt. getting younger seems to be the slogan this yr.

Plus, he was actually healthy enough to play in about half the games he missed, but Gruden had either put him in his doghouse, or had decided since Antonio Bryant was outperforming him that he'd rather have a run-blocker (Michael Clayton) or possession/move-the-chains type of guy (Ike Hilliard) opposite Bryant.

So Torry Holt brings similar questions as Galloway to me. Will he be looking for more than what BB has budgeted for that position? Will it be too much risk at that position given his age and slide in production? Will BB be looking more for a younger guy that may not be quite as fast, but can contribute more on special teams and with downfield blocking? And if he really can be had for 'cheap' money, wouldn't every other team be looking to sign him for the same (or slighly more) contract?

cheap....but not so cheap. yeah, we could get him for late pick, but he's due 6.65M in salary. unless he gets cut, then we sign him, i don't see it happening. he WOULD be a great addition but....

Nicks would be a beast in the Colts offense. I can't believe he is projected to the second round.
