New Orleans>SD #14 For Charger RB L.Tomlinson and 2010 3rd.
The Chargers and LT are at an impasse. New Orleans has stated that they are a customer. The Saints have so few draft picks that they cannot improve. They can with this deal and a top signing like LT can create a buzz. With Duece gone, the Saints need more carries than Bush can give. LT would benefit from a Drew Brees passing games and Bush can be the change of pace back to spell LT but still have his own scheduled touches. This would be a good marriage. The Chargers get two first (they have no second rounder) this year and a top pick in 2010.

Tampa Bay>Cleveland-#50 and #81 For Browns TE K.Winslow
The Browns felt they knew something the Bucs did not and they ain’t tellin’. Winslow is a talent but…... Perhaps Mangini can turn one of these top choices into a “new and improved” Winslow like a Cook, Coffman or Ingram without the drama.

Detroit>NY Jets-#33 and first pick in round seven (7th#193) For NYJ #52 (2ND) & #76 (3RD)
Let’s face it New York, the Jets have very little at QB. The #33 pick is as good as a first rounder but with less cash required. They could have went up a few more slots in the first round but gamble that Freeman is still there at #33. They would worry that the Bucs or Vikings jump up in front with a trade first. Can’t see another viable starting QB for a few rounds.

Phil> NE. #85 Plus Eagles OLB C. Cogong For Patriots RB L. Maroney and TE D. Thomas.
The Pats did not get Fred Taylor to be the fourth RB option on the depth chart. Baker buries Thomas to third on that chart. Both are still young and so is Gocong, whom the Pats wanted in 06. He is now seasoned, which is what Belichick likes. He is seen in N.E. as a Vrabel clone but a younger version. With Buckhalter gone, the Eagles search for a bigger back to share time with the beat up Westbrook. The 222lb Maroney was a first rounder (#21) in that same Gocong draft. He has averaged over 4 yards per carry. All three players have had nicks. All are now deemed healthy. The Eagles have CAP space. The Pats get some CAP help. May the best “tradee” win.

N.E>Phi #151 (5TH) For Eagles WR G.Lewis and 2010 Eagles 7th.
A yawner…Lewis is a number four or five on the Eagles depth chart who have no WRs. Does he jump to number three in New England? Oh well! His salary and CAP is cheap.

N.E.>St Louis #186 (6TH) and 2010 5th For Rams WR T.Holt. Makes sense! The Rams have tried to trade Holt to no avail. The Pats are interested in a sign and trade deal only. This keeps the Pats in control and methinks that Mr. Holt would go for this deal and better yet, has the newly married Tom Brady pitching to him. The luxury for Mr. Holt is having Welker and Moss take some of the attention. Holt could have a year like when he and Bruce used to be “The Greatest Show On Turf”.O.K. Mr. defensive co-ordinator….now what? DBs duck for cover!

1-23 New England-Rey Maualuga MLB USC-I have vasilated on this one. We have a speed ILB, Now we need a stuffer. Mayo is great but does get pushed back strait on.
2 -34 K.C.>N.E.-Sean Smith CB Utah-Smooth and imposing. A Cromartie type defender with a little more beef. They will throw Hobbs way yet again. Maybe a shut down kid.
2 -47 New England-Louis Delmas FS Western Michigan-Two months ago, nope. Then I saw him play. The more I see this kid the more I see a Polamalu and Bob Sanders. A couple more pounds of muscle and there is your SS.
2 -58 New England-James Casey TE Rice-Said to be maybe the safest pick in the draft. Versatile at WR/S/FB as well. With Thomas gone, Watson with limited receiving ability and Baker more on the slow side, our "Cover 2" weapon.
3 -89 New England- Jarron Gilbert DE San Jose State 6-5 287. Wright might not be resigned. This kid has great pass rush potential. Enough speed for ST duty.

Great if we can get it all done!

1) I don't think that you will get Holt for the equivalent of two 6ths. But you are on the right track. We definitely should trade for Holt if we can. Let us presume that we trade our 89 and a perhaps a 2010 pick for Holt.

2) I don't think Smith is worth #34. I'd wait for a corner. I'd rather have Unger to replace neal in 2010.

3) Player trades are rare. I don't think your trade of Maroney and Thomas will happen. Also, it would cost us cap money. Maroney is an OK #4 and returner. Thomas is an OK #3. There are good value for these positions. That being said, of course I would fine in getting a linebacker and a pick for them!

4) Casey is OK player but of little need. I'd rather have OG Luigs, DT Hood, or OG Levitre or DE Gilbert. I would trade this pick into 2010 or for Holt.

5) I would take Domoniques Johnson with our #99.

I would end up with a similar list to yours.

P.S Forgot to mention the #85 pick. Kenny Britt. Big WR with speed but the great thing about this kid is he blocks hard ala Hines and down the field as well. Welker is great at blocking, Moss has made some blocks, I doubt Lewis is a down field blocker. Gaffney was a decent blocker. This is a BB desired trait.

As an option, if we do get a Holt, we might wait a few rounds for a WR and go for another BPA (best player available). Maybe Rashad Jennings to fill the 4th RB slot left by the Maroney trade or even a Nik Harris who could play SS or OLB in the BB Harrison Box fashion (versatility!).

I think you can get the stated best route runner in this draft, Austin Collie BYU at 6' 2" and 206 lbs with about a hundred catches last year, 4.52 in the combine (said to have run a 4.45) and about a 39" vertical and great cone. Led the nation in yards per game. Smart and a superb citizen. You can get him in the fourth and let him learn behind Lewis, Welker and Moss. I see him as a Brian Finneren type WR, with more speed.

Now the last caveat on this Mock. I think that Maualuga can be gotten in the begging of round two. Why not trade down #23 for a second and third (or their second in this draft and number one in 2010) to a team that might seek QB Freeman but want to keep their first round target pick. like St.Louis, Chicago or Jacksonville who could upgrade their QB spot? No we are talking serious ammo in this draft.

A month ago I was prepared to spend #23 on a top Corner/Safety and though OLB needed to be addressed but not until #47 or 58. Now a month later we have signed Springs and Bodden is still a consideration. We traded Vraible away which moved OLB way up on my draft list and to top it all off I never though we might go WR on day one but with Gaffney gone I think it is a priority.

Rey Maualuga - I like this pick if BB can teach him to use his hands to defeat blockers. His blitzing ability makes me salivate as he can bring the wood when he goes after a QB.

Sean Smith - I really like this pick as he can push our whole DB core at every spot and add depth. Where you have us getting Dalmus at 47 I might take Barwin or Unger at 34.

Dalmus - I have loved this kid for a long time and could be the best safety prospect in this years class.

James Casey - With Evans gone he could be the HB we are looking for on Goal line and some base packages. I might have grabbed Ziggy Hood or Nicks at WR but I would be alright with Casey.

Only questions were Jenkins going at 30 to the Titans, do you think his slow 40 will drop him almost out of the first?

That having been said, I find a lot of your picks not realistic. I mean, Kenny Britt falling to #85 and Jarron Gilbert to #89? Come on. Not very likely to happen. Philly trading us #85 and Gocong for LoMo and Thomas? I doubt it. I'd love for those things to happen, but see no way that they come close. I'd also like Aaron Curry at #23, BJ Raji at #34 and Jason Smith at #47 if we're going to get carried away.

Some of your none Pats picks seem a little unlikely to me as well. Robert Ayers going #11 to Buffalo? Quite a reach as things stand right now. I like Ayers and would consider him in the 2nd round as an SILB conversion project. I understand that there is some hype about him possibly going late 1st. But #11 is extremely high. Do you have some info to back this up? NO trading #14 for Tomlinson plus a 3rd also seems unrealistic to me. There are lots of other examples.

I understand the urge to plug in your favorite prospects. You obviously like Maualuga much more than I do (I would take William Beatty). I like both Sean Smith at #34 and Delmas at #47, but unless I was assured of a starting calibre OLB I think that I would go for Barwin at #34, and I am speaking as a huge Sean Smith fan. I understand your Gocong rationale, but I don't find the trade reasonable.

I have not been particularly in favor of taking a 1st day WR. But I have to say, if Hakeem Nicks is on the board at #58 I find it hard to justify passing him up. He would be tremendous with Moss and Welker - a young TO without the head case. I love James Casey, and had him in several early draft scenarios, but with the Chris Baker signing I just can't see us going for a TE in this draft.

The Jenkins 40 is almost laughable. Omg! he was 1/10+ of a second slower than his peers, let's drop him to 30. If that guy is there at 23 we would be fools not to take him. Ofcourse BB would take him because he is probably the best player on his board at that point.

Very talented but the teams that need a CB will go for the speed first while Jenkins might be on some boards as a FS. It's just a need deal.

Thank you. Mayualuga is not my particular favorite. Just fell that way. I don't think an OT in the first round happens. Kaczur is signed for two more years although he could go to Guard. They need another LB. Perhaps it is Matthews.

I stated at the end it would not surprise me if BB opts out of the #23 because our needs can be filled in round two. I might have Britt too low and Gilbert too high. A few weeks ago Gilbert was a fifth. As you know, the board will bounce. I do not think Britt is a first rounder. At #85 if he is there (and if there was a trade) you might have to take him. I like Austin Collie WR BYU much better in the fourth round.

This wasn't all binkies. I am luke warm on Britt. I went for what was on the board versus needs.
It was work but I enjoyed it. I am working of 4-7 with comp guesses. More later.

If Andre Smith is there or Jenkins he definitely is the Best Player Available and a choice you should take.
