Pats to look for a fullback or shall we see Hochstein/Seymour on short yardage?

You see..this is where the T.O. question looms large..and as I've said, I can't stand the SOB...BUT...short term, with the Bowl as the objective, I cannot see the downside. Only one team gives T.O. the immediate quick fix to rehabilitate his image. He says over and over he's a team player..yet he's a a PR pariah right now...what better quick fix is there out there? He takes 82 in deference to Moss...they all blah blah blah the media hype...AND, as far as starpower and what he doesn't have, there's only two other QB's in the league that can approach Tommy Boy...it's like I said in another thread...T.O. drops a ball, Brady is coming right back to him the next play. Single team Moss and T.O. gets to tell the media "man, you can't do that!!", making him even more of cog, because, as all defenses do, you double Moss, you leave the damndest WR in the open field one on one, one thing Owens has ALWAYS shown to be a major mismatch...AND to further rehabiltate his image, this isn't Romo and Whitten screwing him with the racist undertones...this is Wes freaking Welker benefiting from those crushing T.O. downfield blocks turning the short underneath routes into big gainers...add the underachieving Watson who you KNOW T.O. is gonna be all over because he needs some kind of whipping boy and what you have, for at least a season, is an offense of historical potential.

Don't think for a minute that BB wouldn't take a chance if it means winning it all...and don't think for aminute that T.o>, for asll hsi baggage, doesn't want that ring to cement his legacy..and a future on the NFL network or ESPN.Owens, for all his warts, IS box office..and his best chance to stay the center of attention is that ring and the rehab of his image that winning ALWAYS brings.

yeah...OK..maybe I'm pipe dreaming...but if it happened I'd sit abck and watch..the entertainment value is undeniable.

The fullback position is DEAD for the Pats. They need a powerback with versatility, not a fullback. This powerback should be able to run in short yardage situations, catch, pass protect, and block. This powerback might resemble an H-back. I believe that the traditional 'fullback' is dead as far as the Pats offense is concerned. Too limited a role for too few snaps to be worth keeping a roster spot.

There were several articles where he whined out being used at fb and how he got injured that way. I just cant stand him since his big contract signing and little production ala jason varitek

Seymour had arguably his best season last year.

You're completely exaggerating this "whining".

Sounds like the Patrick Pass role. I could see Sammy playing that in-between his writing gigs.

I'd be happier if he hadn't botched his block on the play that wrecked Brady's knee.

Well, if BB decided it was best for the team, I suppose I'd reluctantly go along.

But if the pats won it all, I'd feel a little dirty.

In his brief pre-injury career at FB, Seymour had more than one false start penalty.

It was not a good positional fit for him.

I don't know why they've never tried Wilfork. I'm actually not in favor because of injury possibilities, but who's going to step in front of that train at the goal line.

Also, big Vince as the press cornerback. Make you want to just go home if you're a receiver.:D

Yeah, I think most of us would be.

The best true FB in the draft.....

Is Tony Fiammetta, from the "Cuse!!

Tony Fiammetta - Football's Future NFL Draft Profile

and he can be had with a late round pick.

You beat me to it, FTW:
Tony Fiammetta | Syracuse, FB : 2009 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

Can fill the special teams role. Only had 16 carries in his career. Can catch the ball out of the backfield. Available sixth round.

I'd take a shot. At 250, he could play the H-back role or line up in the I.

I think with the release of Evans it leaves a opening at FB that will probably be replaced on short yardage/goalline situations with both Hochstein and Seymour alternating on offense in those situations.

As long as we have a TE like Baker who has been known to be a good blocker,do we really need a FB in FA or in the draft in other situations?

I think the team does not have to address the FB position as long as some of the guys here can do what they've done before.

I was actually going to post this the other day, but have just been busy, as well as sick, so didn't get the chance. Even though people are dissing this post I agree it's a possibility.

I agree with those that say we are at our best running the ball when we have a lead blocker. Especially Maroney. Maroney's long runs have always come with a lead blocker.

However, with three solid tight ends now we could use one of them as an h-back, and as the original poster said we could use Hochstein as a fullback if needed.

Would I like to add a true fullback? Yes. Do I think BB feels we could use Hochstein/DThomas/2-3 te set instead of using up another roster spot? Yes.

I think that a TE or Hochstein will fill that short yardage need. Will a couple of bulls like BJGE and Morris, not a huge need for a dedicated FB.

well put, IMHO

Three things to address your complaint ....

1) Please,I beg you to put me on ignore if you don't like to read my posts
2) I could care less what you like or don't like to read, who cares what you want?
3) G F Y

Thats all boy,Have a nice evening

Roster spots are precious with the Pats and with 4 RBs already on the roster (Faulk, Taylor, Moroney, and Morris; I can't see BB using up a roster spot on a position that has such limited value and production. On those rare occassions that the Pats need a FB in the middle of the field, Sammy Morris will do fine, and on the extreme short ydage, and GL situations, putting in a Hockstein type will do the job.

They also have Listorti who has played fullback in college...a TE now but maybe they think he can play some FB..when needed...again a possibility and if he was a 3rd TE...saving a roster spot.

I agree. They've had problems with TEs and RBs getting hurt. Makes sense to increase depth there (Watson, Thomas, Baker ... Faulk, Taylor, Morris, Maroney) and have those guys block in a 2-back or H-back set. With that lineup, who do you make inactive on game day?

Evans was not a good enough receiver or RB to stick.
