Pats to look for a fullback or shall we see Hochstein/Seymour on short yardage?

I think with the release of Evans it leaves a opening at FB that will probably be replaced on short yardage/goalline situations with both Hochstein and Seymour alternating on offense in those situations.

As long as we have a TE like Baker who has been known to be a good blocker,do we really need a FB in FA or in the draft in other situations?

I think the team does not have to address the FB position as long as some of the guys here can do what they've done before.

Seymour's original injury was the result of Mawae diving over Vrabel and into the back of Sey's left knee. The FB injury was much more of a freak thing, "friendly fire", if you will, much like Rodney's hyperextending his elbow. Whatever compromising of Sey's play has happened, it dates back to the Mawae incident.

To answer the question, I don't think we'll go for a FB, but use Hochstein in more plays and go to more 2 back sets, possibly incorporating BJGE more.

If he is purposely starting threads "off the mark," it's a good strategy for starting discussion.

Hoch owned it up last year. The hard part is when he is in the game the D can just stack the box. If no FB is signed I would like to see some 2 or more RB sets. Brady kills in the short game. Imagine giving him 4 potential options to choose from.

This team has CONSISTENTLY run better behind a FB, particularly Morris. I don't know enough about Taylor's style to speak there. I'd rather have a true FB on the roster. Given the presence of Evans and Marc Edwards before him, I imagine BB feels the same way.

That was a long time ago. But since then I've repeatedly heard that he hurt his knee playing fullback.
I think Seymour or his agent has told bb he won't do it again.

Sammy Moorris has played fullback and might need to if he wants time with maroney and Taylor.

Also, could Baker hit the wham play like Graham used to? Those might answer the question, with Hoch on short yardage.

They just don't use FB enough to justify the roster spot IMO.

It amazes me...I can rip and tear almost any opposing player the Pats have ever faced, being the over the top homer I am...I CANNOT see any downside to the Fred Taylor signing..injury history notwithstanding, he's Fred Freaking Taylor...I'm still stunned we signed a RB of his caliber. Maroney can only benefit playing alongside a vet of his experience

Agreed that Taylor is an extremely appealing signing.

As for the rest, I'm not aware of a single player on the Pats who is utterly without weakness or flaw. In particular -- and for fairly obvious reasons -- there's almost nobody who plays with all of top-end foot speed, top-end quickness, and top-end strength. Closest to flawless may be Seymour, Wilfork, Moss, and Thomas, but Seymour and Thomas have each had versatility issues at times -- Thomas wasn't all that much as an ILB, to most people's surprise including mine -- Wilfork has the usual NT issues with three-down stamina, and Moss's blocking -- even if it's increasingly effective -- isn't exactly blowing up very many defenders.
