He would be more then an replacement of Mike Wright. He has a second round grade with a ton of upside. He could be starting on a few teams in the next couple years.

Hood is a second rounder. I think he might be more of a 3 technique guy than a nose tackle. So I'm not sure about how well he fits in for the Pats.

If you're looking for a 3-4 DE, Tyson Jackson or Jarron Gilbert are probably better bets.

Jackson yes, Gilbert I'm unconvinced, but Hood will be available later. I think he'd be an excellent addition to the team as a DE, but I think they'll be more value available at our draft spots.

Can you name a few who you think will be in the 2nd round that are better then Hood? I'm still gathering my thoughts on DL. Gilbert I think is too small, and Jackson, to me, will get overdrafted because of his athleticism. He won't probably won't even make it to #23.

I think if we lose Wright that Ziggy may be a great pickup with one of our second rounders. He does have good first step quickness but not sure about experience playing 5 tech but he has the tools to convert from what I saw at the senior bowl.

He looks intense at least.

I agree with both of those statements. I don't think that, after Jackson, there's a better End than Hood. I don't think Gilbert or Ayers will be very good in our defense.

After that I have a group with Magee, Moala, Pedescleaux, and Abdullah.

Finally, we scrape with Khalif Mitchell, John Gill, Rashaad Duncan, and Daryl Richard.

Taking a late round DL makes the most sense to me to fit into the #6 DL spot. It should be someone who has the athletic ability, but was graded low due to injuries, production, overlooked, etc. With Seymour, Green, and Wilfork's contracts coming up we'll need someone who has upside and can possibly fill in that DE role in the next few year with some coaching. Scoot and Irvin could be possibilities.

I really liked Hoods use of the hands at the Senior Bowl. I really see him as a perfect three technique in a 4-3 (with the Colts most likely). I hate to admit it but I have to do more homework on Gilbert (which I have been meaning to do since the combine). Work really cramps my draft homework time

I really think that we are going to extend Wilfork at some point (To important to our defense) and possibly Franchise Seymour for a season. I really think we should go after Wright hard and teamed with Warren, Wilfork, Green and Seymour that is a hell of a DL.

OLB and DB is where I would go with #23 and 34 but at 47 I would take the best DL/OL fit for our system. I know this is prime Barwin territory so if a Jackson (DL) or a top OT slipped to 23 we might have to give him consideration then go OLB and DB with our next two picks.

DL for 2009 is not an immediate need like some other positions but if we knew what BB was thinking as far as the Wilfork/Seymour contract situations would make this much easier.

He would need to put on about 15 lbs before I could consider him for a 3-4 DE though. He sounds like more of a 2nd day guy though. Well it depends on if he can put on the weight without slowing down significantly. How is his lower/upper body strength?

I know a west coast scout for the Ravens and he is a huge Gilbert fan, absolutely loves the guy and thinks he is going to be a stud in this league. He gives him a 2nd Rd grade and claims he could sneak into the end of the 1st. He says Gilbert's best spot is as a 3-4 DE.

I think he can learn this very well and hell he had two picks last season as a D-Line. He is just a second day guy who I think we can pick up in the 6th and develop.

Same place NE got LeKevin Smith. Perfect, those Nebraska boys learned two-gap and some zone blitz, they are so nice to tack on at the end of the draft...Titus Adams should start to show some progress when we see him again in preseason.

I agree. Hood could be a surprise pick at 23. Pats value the big 3 more than most. We have some big contracts upcoming. Hood can be a Ty Warren type selection. 3/4 end with size-power- and a motor. Big upside-coachable.
