Obviously, Scott Pioli does. All I remember is that he cost a preseason game.

Chiefs cut deal with former Patriots receiver C.J. Jones
Posted: March 5, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with wide receiver C.J. Jones, who spent time last season with the New England Patriots.

Terms of the deal were not announced Thursday.

Jones also has spent time with the Cleveland Browns, where he began his pro career in 2003, and on the practice squads of the Browns and Patriots. He spent one season with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in 2006.

New general manager Scott Pioli has set about overhauling the Chiefs roster since coming over from the Patriots. He also has traded a second-round draft pick to New England for quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel this offseason

Ah the C.J. Jones project where do I begin

The only guy hated more than Cassel during the pre-season.

And it's amazing how much that loss cost the--oh, wait, nevermind. ;)

CJ. Yes, i do seem to recall his playmaking abilities;)

How about Bam Childress? (as long as we're going down memory lane) Where did he end up? Is he still in Philly?

I would begin by saying Belichick kept him instead of Chad Jackson last year. Which probably is more an indictment of Jackson.

C.J. has strung together a remarkably long career on the fringes of the NFL. More power to him.

Side question... Pioli seems to be signing a lot of former Pats which is fine, but shouldn't the new coach be picking the players for his scheme? I mean, who's running the team here?

It's collaborative, Haley and Pioli have identified the "type" of players they need, now Pioli goes and gets them, Haley then coaches them.

The driect answer is that usually the GM has final decision on personnel decisions, but my guess is that first, Pioli hired a hed coach that fit the kind of system he wanted in place, and second, that he and Haley are working in tandem, as Pioli and Belichick did in New England.

CJ Jones looked pretty darn good at times last year. Made some tough catches down the middle, stretched the field, and looked a heck of a lot better out there than he's getting credit for in this thread. He had his problems on punts, but as a receiver he looked quite promising from where I sat.

Me, too. That's teh difference between NFL personnel people and fans. Personnel people look at a body of work, at factors and tendencies that indictate high or low ceilings, whereas we fans get hung up on one good or bad play, and let that one play define the players career.

It's obviously more fun and less work being a fan :D

It's just funny they've only signed former Patriots. Like Haley is taking a vacation atm

Summer of 2008 CJ and Chad Jackson were paired a lot in pre-season training camp practises that I attended. CJ always looked smoother in his routes and fielded punts better. Seemed to be the better player of the two, except in physique. Yah, I remember CJs regular season debacle.

It's smart for Pioli in rebuilding mode to sign low cost players like CJ who obviously DO have some talent and then let summer camp weed out those who have hit their development ceiling.

Yeah yeah I hear ya at least CJJ had some potential...

JJ Arrington, Corey Buckhalter, Andra Davis, Brian Dawkins, Ronald FIelds, Andre Goodman, Darrell Reid, and Chris SImms all say, "Hi!"
