I think we all expected the first week to be pretty crazy with the whole Cassel situation.

And when that was done there was the fury of what we are going to use that money on.

I Think there is still more to come but with the two moves today my expectations of something happening any given moment can rest.

We have filled some holes in the moves so far and have not spent too much. Still a few spots to fill but I think it is safe to step away from the refresh button now.

Only glaring 'hole' left is OLB. But the Pats could conceivably go into the season with this team and have all their starters in place. Now they just need to get the best prospects they can in the draft and this team could be deep as well as good.

I think we can forget about Julius Peppers. I do think Jason Taylor is conceivable, but we'll have to wait out the market so that his contract demands come way down.

True the pats could go into the season with the starters set but woods imo is a better backup then a starter. I hardly seen him apply good pressure last season. That being said I think the pats should wait till the draft to upgrade the position.

I really like what the Pats have done, because they have made some extremely cost-effective moves to plug some holes. It might be nice to have Leigh Bodden or Jabari Greer at CB, Sean Jones at S, one of the better WRs, etc. But the fact is that BB and company have managed to fill some major holes with very little expenditure. That's the hallmark of our SB teams.

It also makes me wonder - wishful thinking perhaps - if that big signing isn't still out there. Saving money at CB and WR with Springs and Lewis might mean money to sign Peppers. Or, more likely, to extend Wilfork.

I'm going to go ahead and say we're not finished yet.

I expect at least two moves in the next week or so that will have us making mad use of this emoticon:

Sure was fun, though. I told my buddy about the guy from the Eagles and he knew right away who he was (and this guy's a Cowboys/Saints fan - depends on the day lol) and he said that guy is pure speed. If he develops good route-running he might be a junior version of Sir Galloway.

Assuming no more for today, we have 12 signings (not counting Yates who was cut and immediately re-signed to a revised contract).

RB Taylor
WR Lewis
TE Baker
TE Listorti
OL Hochstein
LB Woods (tendered)
LB Banta-Cain
CB Springs
S Sanders
P Hanson
ST Alexander
ST Ventrone (tendered)
=======================

We still are likely to sign the following long before the draft. This will give us freedom to draft effectively.

FB
#3 S (could be a corner who can also be a backup safety)
WR
LS/OL
LB
=========
Finally, we gained the 34th pick in the draft and lost our regular fifth. We should get a compensatory 5th.

I missed the Ventrone tender, when was that reported?

Add in a minimum 7th in 2010.

Well, this make little sense.

WOODS was tendered as an RFA not an ERFA.
ALEXANDER was re-signed to a one year deal before the due date for tenders.
BRITT was an RFA (not an ERFA) and was not given an RFA tender (not worth $1M)
My understanding is that VENTRONE was tendered as an ERFA. ERFA's are almost always tendered since they cost so little and have no choice. My understanding is that ERFA tenders are often not announced until the tender is signed.

I think this is a year old. Where did it come from???

with the signing of Greg Lewis and Springs, the resigning of Eric Alexander, it looks like BB is filling holes of need with free agency and will follow his trend of drafting best player instead of needs.

After the Springs and Lewis acquisitions that should leave us somewhere around $10 mill under, that seems about enough for the draft picks and extensions for Wilfork/Mankins. Maybe a few more marginal signings.

Well... that's what we have been doing for the last several years.

It seems like we keep bringing losers and crappy junk players into secondary year after year but keep losing losing even decent players. On top of it, our draft picks are also becoming busts. We never seem to package picks and get quality players. The only thing we keep doing is trade down and pick garbage and end up with busts. Our late first rounders and second rounders have been busts. The only silver lining is Mayo. As good coach as BB is, I hope he stops this infatuation with trading down and pick some quality draft players because we are so cheap that we can never hope that this franchise will pick any decent FA.

Welcome to another year of crappy secondary....

Perhaps the Jets or Cleveland would be more suitable for your fandom
