Dolphins In Depth
The fact of the matter is the Dolphins have a ton of needs, many more than a typical 11-win, defending division champion should have. Big Tuna Bill Parcells and Tuna Helper Jeff Ireland know this better than anyone and so the Indianapolis Combine that begins Wednesday will help them sort out which players fit and which don't.

Let me throw out some names...the Dolphins are spending tons of time trying to unearth the next DeMarcus Ware...
-----
Connecticut's Cody Brown
Cincinnati's Connor Barwin
Boston College defensive tackle Ron Brace
Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs
Oregon State's Andy Levitre

BillBoard: Modrak speaks
Bills vice president of college scouting Tom Modrak spoke with Buffalo-area reporters today, and among the highlights: 1, He thinks Penn State pass rusher Aaron Maybin might be big enough to play 4-3 defensive end in the NFL;

Man, I like 4 out of 5 guys on that Dolphins list, especially Brown and Brace. The only guy I don't like is Luigs. I get the feeling that despite scheme differences between the Patriots and other teams, there are going to be a lot of teams looking for guys that fit the Patriots mold.

I guess we'll be running off tackle against buffalo next year.

New York Jets eyeing cornerback position and K-State QB in draft
by Dave Hutchinson/The Star-Ledger

...the Jets are eyeing cornerback Vontae Davis (Illinois) and quarterback Josh Freeman (Kansas State)...

USC linebackers Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews are also in the mix...

...Alphonso Smith (Wake Forest) or D.J. Moore (Vanderbilt).

I'm surprised the Jets aren't kicking Tyson Jackson's tires a bit. Only so often do you get a chance to get a good 3-4 end.

The Bills have committed a lot of cash to their DE spots. I can't see them investing there again.

I would follow the Dolphins closely, Parcells has a very strong draft tarck record. If the Dolphins are high on a player it is a good chance they will fit the Patriots.

Huh. I've got him as my #1 guard...of course Wood, Unger, and Mack are really close. Luigs will probably go a round later, though.

I'm hoping we go with (at the right spot) Unger. Seems like good value for the team and very position-flexible. We'll need an upgrade at centre for 2010 for sure, even though 2009 would be better.

An upgrade at center? I think most of us consider center the most settled of all 5 line positions, with Koppen signed through 2011.

Really? He was getting "blowed up" pretty good this year.
Plus the dude could play right guard at first.

Yeah, really. Draft a RG then.....

I'll take your dots to insinuate you'd like there to be sarcasm there, but I don't get it.

Unger is a C/G.

And incidentally, the Pats are hosting a FA Centre today.

No sarcasm, reality check. The issue is (upgrade.)

Ok, so you think Koppen is the man for the next 3 seasons?

He seemed to be having trouble blocking this year. He may have been dinged up, though.
