Yet another CB visiting. Will this one sign?

Chris Carr to visit Patriots
Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 4, 2009 06:05 PM
The Patriots are scheduled to host free-agent cornerback Chris Carr at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

The 25-year-old Carr (5-10, 180) is considered a strong kickoff returner, and he also returns punts. He spent the first three years of his career with the Raiders, before joining the Titans last season.

Carr has not missed a game in his career, and has six starts.

According to the Tennessean report, Carr has previously visited with the Lions and Browns.

I guess I don't know much about this guy. Would he be primarily an ST player?

Another DB I've never heard of...

He could definitely be a #3 or #4 CB who plays in nickels and dimes, he wasn't a starter for Tennessee but he started a few games due to injury and looked alright to my eye when he was in there. He does "belong on the field", he's not a scrub.

Re: Pats hosting Chris Carr

From what I gather, Carr looks like he was the dime back in a very good Tennessee defensive backfield. He had 29 tackles, a pick, and led the team in passes defended twice this season. He must have been picked on plenty playing alongside Finnegan and Griffin, seems to have done ok.

Also, he is an hardcore reader, he loves Woody Allen movies and he is learning magic.

(the second paragraph was not a joke)

Hey, let's keep the nerds on this side of the computer screen.

You don't want an avid reader. He'll notice right away how

low the salary is on the contract he is offered.

Re: Pats hosting Chris Carr

Jag, bodden or springs or just draft a nice rookie no point of wasteing a roster spot on carr.

Re: Pats hosting Chris Carr

I thought that said David Carr for a second and almost sh!t myself.

More CB's competing the better...last year it was pretty much inked in as Bryant and Hobbs, and then Bryant got run over in the preseason game and we had to scramble and start a very poor Deltha O'Neal. Hopefully this year we have a good healthy competition for the starting CB and S spots, and some cream rises to the top. No late August starters, and no injuries, please.

Michael Scott went to Magic Camp, and he turned out fine. Sounds good to me!

Re: Pats hosting Chris Carr

It appears as if the free agent corner backs are in high demand this year. Former busts and older players are getting 3+ millions per year instead of vet. minimum of ~700K. Could this be due to cb's in the draft not impressing scouts during the combine week ?

Re: Pats hosting Chris Carr

Don't know or care if they sign this guy, but man I'd love to see them draft/sign a premiere return specialist. Hobbs is good on kicks, but hate to see him out there, and I can't remember the last time the Pats broke off a 30+ punt return, though Welker might have done it once last year. (?)

As far as CBs, they really need to make a move quick on either Bodden or Springs. Once they are gone, IMO, there will be no starting caliber CBs on the market and it's rookie city, sweetheart ...

Don't hold your breath waiting for a good cornerback to sign. The

most the Patriots paid last year for a free agent cornerback was

one million dollars for Deltha O'Neil.

It isn't looking like we will get a big money CB but your argument doesn't work given the money we spent on WR in 2006 only to get Welker and Moss for 2007.

Don't forget the post-draft sales!

Well, with Greer now signing in NO, it's Bodden, Springs or bust for FA CBs. As was just noted, BB learns from his personnel mistakes, so hopefully he doesn't go K-Mart on CB.

Good call, TB. Welker had one PR over 40 last season: Wes Welker: Career Stats

I also would love to see the Pats get a return specialist to take pressure off of Welker, Hobbs and Faulk. Slater will get another chance, but I didn't see much last year.

Slater could develop into a decent KR if he ever works up the nerve to deviate from a straight line, but not sure he could be the solution at PR.

Re: Pats hosting Chris Carr

well I guess so far we've found out the Pats think the crop of CB's is lousy. I see the trading up for a cb at this point and adressing lb with a 2nd rounder.
