I read this in Reiss's blog and other sites as to what Cassel said in his news conference -

Is it me and is this disrespect to Brady for Matt to THANK Pollard for the opportunity meaning thanks Pollard for taking Brady out - OR Am I reading into this wrong and a little differently than it was meant to be??

Thanking ANYONE including a new teammate for giving him a chance to play because he took out the franchise player is a bit shocking, unless once again I am seeing it differently than it looks.

Cassel's response is a few questions into the conference in the link provided when talking about Pollard

Could this be the 'evil' and envious side of Matt we have not seen now that he is a rich man?

No matter the context, that's ridiculous.

Re: Cassel to say to Pollard "Thank You For The Opportunity"

i dont like it, better be careful matty thigpen could be thanking dawkins sometime next season.

Re: Cassel to say to Pollard "Thank You For The Opportunity"

It was a joke.

Re: Cassel to say to Pollard "Thank You For The Opportunity"

I'm sure Brady (a) doesn't care what Matt Cassel says and (b) even if he did, he has a much better sense of humor than most on this board.

Does not say it was a joke nor was he laughing or the press either - We can only hope he was joking but even a joke like that would be tasteless since it actually took the best player in the game out for a whole season, thats nothing to laugh or joke about if you ask me.

I hope someone askes him if those comments were in fun, regardless its a dumb comment

Of course it was. You could tell he was just winging the answer based on the lines before that. I can't believe people are taking it seriously.

The entire situation is uncomfortable. I mean he is now the teammate of the guy who essentially was the catalyst for him to become a starting NFL QB and be set financially for the rest of his life- all at the expense of his very good friend. I'm not sure what the right thing to say in that situation besides saying nothing...

Well when you hold your press conferences you can be as dour as you like :D

Come on, this is silly in the extreme. Cassel and Brady are great friends.

Re: Cassel to say to Pollard "Thank You For The Opportunity"

Well yes obviously it was a joke, but it's uncalled for and unprofessional.

Thanks for taking out the best QB in the league during his prime which gave me the chance to play, hur hur.

What's he supposed to say ? "That was a dirty hit, you assshole" ? I thought it was good, quick thinking wit myself.

Agreed - Joking or not,we can't be sure but at the best case scenerio and he was allegedly joking it was a dumb and controversial answer that you may very well see swell up once ESPN or other media grab ahold of it to dirty it up a little.

C'mon guys, i know we still feel hurt by that hit and to us patriot fans it might feel a bit painful, but it was definetely a joke and i'm pretty sure Brady laught the most of everyone.

He's no longer on the Pats, therefore he no longer gets a pass for anything, serious or not I guess

Oh girls behave. Not everyone is trying to belittle the precious little Patriots.

Something cliche among the lines of "It was unfortunate". As said, Brady and Cassel are good friends and I'm sure he wouldn't be bothered by this playful comment either, I just don't find it appropriate.

Also here's the full quote, obviously playful...

Oh gosh. Now he is a teammate and I know that it wasn’t intentional. Nobody likes to see anybody go down, I’m sure including himself. I will talk to him and say hello, say thank you for the opportunity, but you never want to see anybody get hurt out there.

Just unnecessary. I don't find thanking the guy who took out Brady's knee during the prime of his career humorous.

ESPN can't criticize him, he's no longer on the Pats. ;)

Can someone possibly find a link to that live press conference if its on the net so we can see Matt's response to that question and whether there was a laugh or funny look on his face?

Would be interesting nonetheless

Re: Cassel to say to Pollard "Thank You For The Opportunity"

Read the interview. When put on the spot, he sort of admits that Pollard is responsible for him getting an opportunity. In between saying that it truly sucked that Brady got hurt, and that you never want to see anyone get injured. I thought that it was an extremely diplomatic response, which didn't in any way disrespect Brady. OP is really reaching here...

I listened to the conference. People here are getting their panties in bunches over nothing.

This seems like a whole lotta nothing. Try answering 400 questions in a row and see if one of your answers sounds a little more rude than funny. Sheesh.
