Guyton says he'll be back in Foxborough on March 15. And btw, Guyton is my Binkie for starting ILB opposite Mayo this year.

Guyton preparing for NFL return

After the meeting, Guyton talked to the Courier’s sports editor about heading to spring training. He is set to report back to the Patriots on March 15.

"I’m excited about going back to work and I’m ready to enjoy the next season," he said. "Basically it’s about getting back to being with my teammates."

Guyton signed on with the New England Patriots last year as an undrafted free agent.

Guyton impressed the coaching staff of the San Francisco 49ers and the Patriots at the 2008 NFL Combine, where he finished on top of the linebackers in the 40-yard dash and other events.

Both teams were looking to sign him and Guyton chose the Patriots. He said the opportunity to play on a championship team made the decision somewhat easy.

Chances are Mayo has already jimmied the locks and is lifting weights on the treadmill in the film-room.

Im a HUGE Guyton fan. Seems like a real blue collar, lunch pail kind of kid.

Re: Guyton: Patriots starting offseason program ASAP.

Guyton said he's been working out and staying in shape because he knows an NFL career is one that has no guarantees. He said he knows he still needs to earn his job and will work hard to keep his name on the lineup.

"He is definitely hard," Guyton said of Patriot head coach Bill Belichick. "He makes the changes the team needs to win. So, he is definitely hard, and I'm going to do what I can to help the team win and do my best."

Sounds like he gets it.

I think Mayo already said he was staying in MA this winter and coming in to the Stadium as much as possible.

Someone should have the link, if so please post.

Shows a good work ethic from him.

I too like Guyton. I thought he played really well for a rook, especially with all the injuries the LB corps suffered.

I think he will either start in the middle with Mayo, or be the sub in the middle spelling Tedy. Either way, he will be a key player for our new younger LB group. :D

Re: Guyton: Patriots starting offseason program ASAP.

Sounds like Taylor would LOVE it here if this is the case, hehe.

And BB has made exceptions before -- especially veteran players. Ring a bell? ;)

I feel the same way, I Love Guyton (in a football sort of way that is).

Re: Guyton: Patriots starting offseason program ASAP.

If Guyton has added a couple of pounds to his frame, and has been able to really improve his functional strength, he could make it interesting. I'm not sure he'll be able to do it, and I've still got him as a 'Coverage' ILB, but I'd love to see him step it up.

Re: Guyton: Patriots starting offseason program ASAP.

Guyton seems like a real workhorse, x's and o's type, pin-your-ears-back, type of ballplayer.

hard nosed football players playing with their head on a swivel.

hard nosed D and tenacity from a fundamental football standpoint.

Guyton encompasses all these fundamentals, for all intensive purposes.

I'm trying to igure out what an "intensive purpose" is. Sounds serious.

Not quite as serious as intensive porpoises, though. ;)

Wait, what? Oh god, do you mean "intents and purposes" :ugh:

Re: Guyton: Patriots starting offseason program ASAP.

Guyton is already a nice player who ideally fits in the Roman Pfeiffer role as a coverage down linebacker who isn't a liability when injuries hit and he's called to fill in.

I'm sure Guyton is looking at the Vrabel cut and TBC signing as a direct challenge to him. He's probably looking at his 40 time and saying "I can be the pass rusher." Unless we draft 2 LBs high, I can see him winning a starting role by year's end.

Re: Guyton: Patriots starting offseason program ASAP.

Guyton = uber athlete. He has the work ethic, teamates, and coaching to become a Pro-Bowler in a few years. BOOK IT
